Listen to this crap!

I took my 2003 HO in for white smoke on start up and an intermittent loss of power that I can't seem to put my finger on. Anyhow, I suggest to the service manager that maybe that TSB for the white smoke applies to my rig. 1 day later he calls me back and says that the TSB didn't apply to my truck but STAR told them to check my turbo wastegate rod. The rod was litterly frozen in place and would not move in or out! STAR told the tech to spray PB Balster on it to break it loose, then to work it in and out untill it frees up. The tech told me he had to put a lot of rear into getting the thing to break free. Anyhow, the tech call STAR to see about a new turbo since the turbo and WG are sent in 1 piece to the dealers. STAR made the tech run some computer tests which showed an overboost condition due to the WG sticking. The tech cleared the code and told me to come back in a few days to see if the code came back. 3 days later I come back and the code is there and power is down. The tech calls STAR back and they tell him they won't release a turbo to the dealer because none of the techs are CTD certified!!! Now I have to take the rig to a dealer in the city that's no where close to where I live....man that's a bunch of crap. A Dodge dealer that sells CTD powered turcks that can't even service them on site??? Anyhow, it looks as though I will get a new turbo out of the deal and possibly new injectors because of the nasty clatter I get when comming up through the rpm's. Odd thing is that the noise goes away at a certain rpm then comes back untill redline???

And the techs have to give all the findings to STAR before they release a part. You can't even go to your own parts counter to order a part without STAR verifing that its a "private" purchase.

Tell them to pay for your diesel

I thought all 5 Star Dealerships were required to have at least one CTD certified technician on hand at any time.

I don't think so. My local dealer has no certified CTD person, and personaly I like it that way. I think if I ever have an issue I can push to go to certified Cummins shop and bypass the Dodge dealerships. Course', I probably won't get any say in the matter ....

At least the tech at the dealership tried to help you. Most everyone I've gone to would just say sorry, it's not covered.

That is a bunch of crap, but the dealership did try to help you. I's annoying that STAR won't bother doing the right thing, but that seems to be their job.

I'm dropping my truck off Tuesday night for the steering wheel being off-center and a pull to the left under braking. Hopefully they won't try to screw me over on this one. I am kinda annoyed that my brand new truck with under 10k miles on it needs to go back to the dealer at all for anything besides a TSB, though, and am hoping this isn't an indication of future BS that I'm going to have to deal with over the next several hundred thousand miles.

I dont know abought anyone else but I am getting sick of Star. I have never been a fan of DC and my new purchase is not helping any. I am so sick of them telling me and other people to just drive it and deal with it. It does not only aply to our Cummins equiped trucks either. A lady my wife works with just bought a new 2500 with the Hemi to pull her camper and she is haveing all kinds of problems dealing with warenty isues. My grandparents are looking at getting a mini van and they like the look of the Town and Country but grandpa wont touch anything Crysler with a 10 foot pole. He has been burnt in the past buy them and has freinds that are still having problems. My elderly neighbor finaly gave up as well. He had a Town and Country and finaly said to heck with it and sent it down the road for an Oldsmobile van of some sort. He was sick of taking it in and getting no where with dumb isues. This is withought a dought the last DC product to sit in my driveway. I gave them a large chunk of money and they wont stand behind there own warenty. You can knock me all you want but I wish I had looked harder at a DMAX. I know your going to say ya but they have injector isues, SO DO I, and a lot of 04.5 owners. At least when you take a DMAX in for injector isues and they find a bad one they replace it wthout insident. And I have heard that they replace them all if it is a bad failure, although I dont know if thats true. And they put a 200,000 mile warenty on all the LB7 injectors. The other benifits would be a true crew cab and an auto tranie I can trust. Pluss the wife would be able to drive it again when nesasary. The way it is now I have a trani I can trust but my wife cant drive it even if she had to.

Sory to rant. Im done now.

I feel your pain brother , but my wife currently has a Chevy Impala SS and GM has jerked me around worse than anyone . I will NEVER own another GM product for as long as I live !!! As far as Dodge goes I got the chain yanking on cab plugs but a call to the 800 # took care of it . All the automakers do this , just some to a lesser degree I guess ....... happy with Dodge so far . I have owned new vehicles from Ford ( no complaints , wanted a REAL diesel) , Chevy ( never again ,worse brakes in the industry) Nissan ( mixed emotions, most probs surfaced after warranty) . On the flip side after warranty is expired I do all of my own work cuz nobody takes care of your vehicle like you !! I traded in a 92 Ford Ranger that worked it's guts out with 285,000 miles for this Chevy that can't seem to go a 100 miles without something going wrong . Believe me the grass is not so green in Bowtie land .
