Lights flickering: other cause than voltage regulator??
I grabbed 2 voltage regulators from the bone yard and the lights keep flickering. I'm thinking I could rule out the voltage regulator although I haven't tried with a new one. Anyhow, what else could be the cause for the lights to flicker?
Thanks y'all!

I have the same problem with my heap and I have given up. I have had new regs used regs cleaned grounds added extra grounds and they still flicker. Let me know if you figure it out.

Mine used to flicker...added some grounds....(plural) to the frame, and the engine....flicker went away. I'd say a ground issue....good luck.

Grid heaters: thought about it, but did not pursue it. I guess I could disconnect them and see what happens.
Jim, that's interesting. I noticed that with the old voltage reg., the flickering was fairly regular at idle and is much less intense - intensity of the lights - at higher rpms. The junk yard reg. #1 flickered very rapidly, and reg. #2 is very erratic.
This leads me to want to rule out the regulator as the issue, although I could be wrong.
The alt. diode, I did no think about it: is there a way to test it?
Grounding issues: I'm sure it would help to clean or add some.
Any further thoughts?
