Well last night on the way home the light that illuminates my headlamp switch went "BLIP". I pulled the dash bezel, removed the switch and backed out the "LIGHT".

I stopped by my local auro parts store and they said the tragic "dealer only" phrase.

I called the dealer today and all he could tell me was he would be happy to sell me a $65.00 switch so I could have the bulb. I gently declined his offer.

$50.00 question is, Now where do I look to find this strange looking bulb/contraption?? It looks like a X-mas tree bulb with about a 1" plastic extension base.

I am CORNFUSED as to where to even begin.

we use alot of these strange bulbs in the elevator industry for hall station and position indicators.

I will try and find a site for you that has a catalog that you can cross refernce pictures.

Jason, Thanks for the lead. I quickly looked after I removed the bulb from the switch and did not see a comparable bulb. This danged bulb has two 1-1/8" leads off of it just like a Christmas tree bulb would have (clear twinkle blinkers). I guess I will hit up the local Radidio Shack to see if the might have. I do not have a clue as to the wattage rating this puppy has, but from the looks of the base I removed it from....IT GETS HOT!!!. Maybe this little lamp is the cause of the headlamp switch failures I have previously read about in here.

Well, I made the trip to Radidio Shack and attempted their closest fit to my dilemma and used a Model #272-1141 bulb, and with a small amount of "exacto" modification to the bulb, made it fit the socket stand -off and "WALLA"..... turned on the lights and my switch illumination is BACK!!!!!!

Be very careful during the "exacto" mods because the wires on the new bulb are THHN style (very fragile). The light works great as far as a $65.00 switch replacement goes.... and it was tested down my 3/4 mile dirt/mud driveway at 45mph (no blinking).


Chalk this site up for another low budget repair (for a non-dodge repair-short of replacing the entire switch).....

Great tip Gary.....it just hurts way too much to pay huge fees for things like this.....Ill have to print this one out.
