lift pumps

i am running 100% bio-diesel in my truck for the past 6 mos. the only trouble i have is i have went through 3 pumps in 6 mos. i am using the old style pumpwith a diafram in it. does anyone else have this happen to. for once i am glad i bought something at autozone cuz they keep giving me new ones. also if i change to a piston pump will b100 harm it to or not? thanks

I think if you switch to the piston pump for a 94-98 it will cure your problem, I don't think they are affected by bio. The bio is probably tearing up the diafram in the older pump.

Also for knowledge cummiins has a new part number for the piston pump that is much cheaper, I just bought one from my local cummins dealer. Here is the numbers and prices he gave me.

#4944710 $81.83 if this isn't avail. it superceeds to #4988747 $84.24

and gasket is #3939258 $1.86

Hope this helps....Josh

thanks josh for the part numbers i knew there was a piston type pump that
would work but calling cummins to get any info is a loss.

Your welcome

I've never done this swap before (never owned a 1st gen) so I don't know if anything needs to be changed on your truck to use this pump, but it shouldn't be much if there is, 1st gen guys should be able to tell you though.

good luck....Josh
