all this talk about lift pump failures has me wondering.... what's going on? i have always used oem lift pumps.
two were replaced while under warranty. after the warranty expired i mounted 2 campaign pumps on the frame and have had absolutely no problems, one pump is not pumping. it's there in case the other one fails!
i currently have over 200,000 miles, i don't have low pressure (unless 7psi at WOT is considered low)........

Ummm Johnh... usually when one pump fails it restricts fuel from passing through it. That's why when people install aftermarket fuel pumps, like airdog and fass, and they have the intank pump, they install a new draw straw with it. And secondly, 7psi is the minimum pressure you want to see. 10-15psi is better imo.

Just replaced mine at 103,000. Cut it apart and all I could see wrong is a worn armature where the brushes ride. The rest looked perfect. It had been slowly failing and when it got to 3 psi I replaced it with a campaign pump. I will order another carter or an airtex for a spare. No big dollar waste of money pumps for me.

I was getting irregular fuel pressures at the gauge. I didn't want to burn up another VP44, so I took the old goat down to the local diesel shop. Told the manager that I wanted something better than stock, but less than the $500-$600 options that were out there. He recommended a lift pump manufactured by Lucas, sold by O'Reilly's. He said they were having good luck with them, they mount the same, only the pump is turned 90 degrees from the stock pump position. Bought/installed it cost $300. Now at idle I have 20-21 p.s.i. and haven't been able to pull it below 15 p.s.i. yet. We'll see if it's going to produce. Hopefully so, Lucas makes some good stuff. Has anyone else used this pump? Be interested to see what the results were.

I did some checking and it's not a Lucas pump after all. It's an Airtex E7153. I've seen some reviews, and like everything else, you either love them or hate them.

I just installed an airtek because I installed a FP gauge & found out that my LP was dead. So far I am getting the same FP @ 20 I figure once the pump gets broken in that it will settle around 15 or so but for now it holds steady idle 20 WOT 15-17

Thats what I was thinking they installed. To me thats a good option.

I've heard that just the stock mounting location of these pumps makes them go bad faster? Heat from the engine? Min went bad, replaced with an OEM from schied (when it fails its supposed to fail in the open position?), and also added another aux. fuel system as well.
