Lift Pump

Can the original style Fel-Pro Carter lift pump from Geno's garage be change on the road without being towed to the shop? I always have a spare filter with me and tools. I was thinking of getting a pump, as they are about $200.00 . This would be if I was stuck while traveling. "04.5"

With a little gumption, and the right tools, yes. Not real hard to do.

I looked and it seems if you removed the left wheel well shield you have good access to change the pump. I was going to buy the two short hoses and keep them with the pump. Has anyone changed one out on the road? Am I missing anything?

i think with a few basic tools, it would be very possible to change out the filter mounted pump if you were to get stuck on the road.i forget what size bolts, but three on the pump to filter, and a and a set of pliers to remove the spring clamp on the fuel line.

I always carry a set of sockets and pliers when i drive, you never know when you might need them!

5 mm allen bolts. I have a spare pump and intend to change mine in my driveway before it fails. I'm at 50K miles, so I'll do it soon. I think there is a trick to getting the electrical connector off, (slide the tab?), otherwise should be easy.

Pinch the tab to remove electrical connector if it doesn't want to come off give it a shot of WD40 will help release lock. Don't forget to remove old O-ring sometimes stays in fuel filter housing. 03 and up common rail engines only.

Exactly why I went with a GDP Walbro kit bought from Lary. I don't worry about it anymore. If needs changed it is on the frame rail and easy to get to.
