Lift Pump Question

Hi Guys,

About 17k miles ago, I replaced the LP on my truck. It completely lost pressure.

My question for you is: When your LP failed, did its pressure keep going down gradually? And stay down?

The reason I ask this is because my current LP is working erratically. Most of the time, when I first start the engine for the day, the pressure will be at 13PSI. After a few minutes, sometimes seconds, the pressure will drop to about 7PSI. During my trip to or from work, the pressure may go up to 13PSI again, then it drops as low as 5PSI.

Upon arrival home, I've bumped the starter and the LP only runs for a couple of seconds and the pressure will only reach 5PSI. But, if I start the engine, the pressure may go up to 13PSI.

I have double and tripled checked the electrical connection to the LP and swapped the Fuel System relay with another inside the engine compartment.

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to give you as much info as possible.

So..... is my LP failing again?

Thanks for any information.

Martin

I would get a mechanical fuel pressure gauge for about $30 and be sure. My LP was still good and I replaced it with a FASS 95 HPLP with big line kit and have not looked back since. With my truck if the wheels don't roll, no money is coming in.

Does anyone actually replace a stock lift pump?
Get a FASS or AirDog

Yup, Time to replace your LP. Both of my stock pumps acted erratically before quitting. The original at about 94K and the stock replacement at
around 8K miles. Spend the money and buy a good aftermarket pump. Cheap peace of mind.
