Leveling kit and 315's = Deathwobble

Put the leveling kit on and got some used 315's and H2 wheels. They replaced my 265's. Truck never had deathwoble but now it does, BAD! My only vehicle and cant hardly drive it. I replaced the track bar with a Moog unit and it still has deathwobble. What other causes are there and what can I do to fix this thing?

Worn ball joints, tie rod ends, etc. can cause it. Get the tires off the ground and shake the wheels side to side, up and down. See if there's any play anywhere. Put the wheels back on the ground and have somebody turn the steering wheel lock to lock. Look for movement of the track bar. Improper alignment can also make it worse. Might want to have it aligned anyway if you haven't. Try adding in more caster, that usually helps.

I know that most everything under there needs to be replaced. I only have so much cash and dont want to waste any on parts I dont need. Is there any one thing that is more important than the others that may help my situation?

Do you get a wobble all thime or just when you start stopping? At low speeds or high? I as this because sometimes it just might be your streer stablizer (Cost for hevay duty about 40.00). If you are using OEM you will need to replace it. The OEM was made for 215/85/16. I had the problem on mine at first at that was all I had to do. I have 165,00 on the truck. I am running Kumho RoadVenture AT's 315/75/16. I have also done the 2in leveling in the front and 2in spacers in the back.

The stabilizer on there is a stock replacement and is less than three years old. It seems to be happening at speeds under 60, because over that I have had no problems, or it just hasnt shown its face at that speed. Tires were mounted and balanced by me. All torque specs done by me. Track bar installed by me. I got under there and the steering components seem really worn when manipulated on at a time, but watching them in unison while the wheels turn they dont seem that bad. I drove all the way to Birmingham from Atlanta and had no problems, as soon as I leave the airport and the bumpy road going back to I20 and it lets go twice in less than 500 yards. The rest of the day it repeated but not while at speed coming back from Birmingham. This morning coming to work it did it four times in 20 miles. I dont know if I should replace the steering components first and then get it aligned or vice versa.

Have you replaced your shocks? Mine had a horrible wobble if I hit a bumb in the road when I put on the leveling kit. My front shocks were completely wore out, put on a new set made for a 2in lift and problem was fixed.

It sure sounds like mine did. My steer stabilizer is about double the size of the old one. You can get it just about anywhere. That seems like a cheap way to go for now. Just make sure you get heavy duty. It made all of the difference. You can see it in my picture from the front. Sorry I can't tell you more without seeing it in person. Greg

Well the 315's are BFG AT KO. Shocks are brand new installed with leveling kit but are stock replacement off of an 06 2500. I am going to get an alignment and the bigger stabilizer for now and go from there. The tires were balanced in front of me by myself and my brother, they were all on "0" before being mounted back on truck. I believe the alignment is bad, hasnt been done since I bought the truck, and the stabilizer is probably not enough for the 315's. Will reply when that is done.

Did you check play in the steering box/wheel.

Dont' see a DSS in your signature. Strongly recommend it!

try the caster adj first cause if u do it your self it's free just roll the lower eccentric bolt all the way torwards the front of the truck and that should fix it.

BFG 315's are notorious for causing DW...that's why I asked.

I've seen it on at least 3 different trucks....swapped wheels, DW gone. Put BFG's back on, DW came back.

Put your 265's back on, if it still has DW, something in your front end is shot. If the DW goes away, well.....at least you'll know where the problem is.

You can try putting as much caster as you can in the front axle, but if it's the BFG's it won't help.

You ususly have some to start with but shows it self with the bigger tires of any brand. I have run 5 sets of BFG M/T's 33x12.50 and 35x12.50 on the two of my trucks and did not even have to ballence 2 sets that I put on at home my self and they were just as nice as the ones that I had done. The bigger tires put a little more stress on the parts and will make them flex a little more than the stock tires will but that dose'nt mean that the bib tires are the prob. If any part of your frount end has slop you need to replace it as soon as you can. Also try to get the DSS and the 3rd gen track bar kit it makes all the diff in the world. Its worth every $0.01. It will stop the boddy shift that the stock trackbar will alow and the DSS stops the flex of the frame and the slop in the shaft in the stearing box that gives you the spungy stearing. I also have a 2" leveling kit.
