leaking P/S-bad brakes

I have a 2001 3/4 4x4.Power steering leaks fluid.Brake pedal is very soft.Have 4 wheel disc brakes-new pads-all rotors turned with no change in pedal feel.Could the two problems be related? If so what is the cure?

Re:leaking P/S-bad brakes

The two are most certainly related. The brakes on your truck use the power steering pump to provide hydraulic boost to the brake system instead of the standard vacuum assist brake set up you may be use too.

I would suggest you find out where the leak is coming from and get it fixed ASAP, that should take care of your brake problem.

Good Luck

Re:leaking P/S-bad brakes

If I recall correctly the vacumn pump is directly behind the power steering pump and that some have had issues with the vacumn pump seal that is between the steering and vacumn pump. Dodge will say that you have to buy the entire vacumn pump but if that is the place it is leaking you can replace just the seal if you can find it. Over on the TDR there is a member who goes by "CPFF" that sells just the seal. I think there is another place you can get the seal as well maybe a search on here will bring it up.
