Leaking Axle?
There appears to be fluid leaking out of the back of my front axle. It looks like it's leaking from the housing where the front drive shaft connects to the axle. What does this mean? Has anyone else seen this? I tested my 4x4, and it worked fine except it didn't want to disengage after I went back into 2H. I put the truck in reverse and heard a little pop, and the truck went into 2H. I've got 30K on the truck.

maybe
I noticed that vent tube above the axle, and that thought did cross my mind. What makes the crank case vent tube start venting? It seems to be venting a lot. I have 3000 miles on my last oil change and this is the first that I've noticed it. Thanks for your help guys.

The oil leaking where the front driveshaft hooks to the front axle is probably the pinion seal. It could be leaking because the breather vent is plugged or the pinion bearings are bad, or the seal just failed with no obvious reason. Check the breather tube first, Then turn the front driveshaft by hand and feel for loose or growling bearings. If all checks OK then replace the seal only.
The engine crankcase breather tube will vent some steam while running. This is normal. I think it a little back from the front pinion seal but make sure it isn't getting on it.
