Question Leaf Spring Replacement...

Is it common for leaf springs to sag just on one side of a vehicle? My 97 with 165k miles on it seems to be about an inch lower on the left rear than the right rear judging by the gap underneath my timbrens. Guess it wouldn't matter too much except the left timbren touches now when I get in and the truck is otherwise unloaded which makes for rough ride... I assume they have to be replaced in pairs. Is this something that can be replaced in the driveway by a clumsy home mechanic or is it something I should take to a professional spring shop? Just put on a direct replacement or should I take this opportunity to upgrade a little. Anybody else that's had to do this - what kind of budget figure should I have in mind to replace them?

Springs sag out usually from overloading or bad shocks with out of balance tires. First thing I would reccomend is replace your shocks with a good set of gas charged shocks, then measure your fenders wells to the ground. If there is still a big diff side to side, get in touch with a good spring shop. The better ones are usually a shop that rebuilds big truck springs. If you take it there and have them do the job, they will make sure the truck is level when the job is done. Get a quote before they start.

+1 on the spring shop

Also, after replacing my shocks I noticed ride height increased. Was "shocking" to me (art art art)
