I've towed with a friends 04 6L and it ran really nice and good driving but he's afraid to get out of phone range with that thing. It's been in the shop MANY times since about 16k miles and he's seriously afraid of it now that it's out of warranty. Him and I had to push it out of his backyard so the wrecker could pick it up, when it totally quit at 18K and I told him to get the heated tailgate next time. He likd that one! He takes great care of his stuff and drives like gramps but nothing can help that lemon. Craig

Ya, I drove one a year older than mine the other day and it was a dog. Made me love my motor that much more. Now if I could only get done replacing all the junk that dodge put on there with what it shoulda had in the first place... lol

my mom has an 01 350 lariat 4wd with a western hauler bed and it takes 70 miles to get it up to 70mph. i have no idea how she stands to pull anything with it. my dad (a CTD owner) told her it was one notch above walking the last time he drove it!!!

I pulled a loaded trailer (4500# ...MAYbe) for a guy here in town to Cedar City with his '04 PoorJoke 6-speed before I bought my CTD. I hit Dragon Hill on I-70 west of Green River about midnight, plenty of nice, cool air. Had the cruise set at 78 and the engine began to pull down in 6th so I popped her in 5th and picked it up at about 2 grand .... RPM STILL dropping so I got 4th and it started picking it back up ..... slowly. When the R's got to about 2400 it started pulling pretty hard so I went for 5th .... ooooops .... not quick enough ..... back to 4th and let it wind until it was screamin'! THEN a quick shift to 5th where I left it until I topped out. I'm thinking: 'This is supposed to be a DIESEL ???? What the ????' I related this experience to the guy and asked about the 'lack of power' when I got back and he said: "Man, you got to WIND it UP! It ain't a big truck."

What a JOKE!!

Needless to say I did not consider the PoorJoke or Diapermax (same lousy powerband) when I went for a new truck and I am SO GLAD I've got the CTD!

Usually if it is a manual it is a pooch but if it is a 5spd auto don't kid your self they get up and run especially compared to a stock cummins

Ive got a buddy with an 06 F250 auto with a superchips programmer. We used it to pull another friends trailer loaded with stuff from his apartment and even with the programmer on the highest setting it sucked. He drove it there and i drove it, unloaded, back. My truck with the smarty, or the bullydog when i had it, felt so much stronger on the 90hp setting than that truck did.

It took 37k to get my 04 6.0 working right. Nice truck now. It will get replaced with a Cummins some day...

When and if they work...they work alright. There is a big difference from truck to truck. Big.

But...like I said, would rather have the Cummins now...after all I have been through.

My friend just bought a 6.4L F250, but had an 04 6.0 Automatic With Edge Juice/Attitude and a 4" lift on 35's. That truck ran very well. seemed to accellerate with a trailer better than mine did. Mine would pull a 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer on my 90hp setting accellerating at 23lbs of boost. his would do it around 15 or 16 on his level 3. granted the truck wouldnt pull at all below 2k, but once they are above 2k rpms you better look out, because those trucks flat move. Stock for stock they will tear up a cummins in a race.

Cummins is better for pulling in the long run of course, but in a pulling race or an unloaded race, PSD's get moving.

I agree, they are fast. I owned an 01 PSD and it ran extremely well, had a Hypertech 65hp chip and 5" exhaust. Can't complain, of course it was a 7.3. I got the Cummins this time cause of the bad injectors on the 6.0L. I think the Fords are nice trucks people just like to dog em. Of course if you go to the Ford forum those guys are saying the same thing about our trucks.

Isn't that just because the Cummins runs more boost all around? If our max boost is 10psi higher then it would make sense yours is higher under the same conditions.

Man, is this a self conscious thing, or maybe a defense mechanism. I have had all the big three has to offer last one to go was a 04 6-Ho. The truck pulled well for stock, did not have great low end. Now my 04 PSD would flat out, out run my 07 CTD hands down. The 04 had just an SCT and went 13.80 in the 1320. I know my 07 with the so called Crazy Larry will not do that. Now for low end, and longevity well we all know the 5.9 wins that debate.

Seems like in all conditions he is doing much less boost. They only make about 26psi as opposed to the cummins 32psi stock, but is that enough for a 10psi pulling difference or a 8psi cruising speed (while pulling) difference?

Well, I'm on vacation down here in Miami Fl and for the last week I have been riding or driving an 05 Excursion w/ a 6.0 in it. This thing is sweet and it pulls 10,000lb around easily. I think he got lucky and got one of the good ones but he gets the same mileage I get and we had 8 people in it today going down to the keys. This thing is really sweet and has only had a small oil drip from the bellhousing since new....
