the latest engine going in
Well here it is, the next one. I put this in performance because it is not stock. It is one of the blocks with no casting numbers.

I run two C Cummins (8.3) in Case-IH Magnum tractors. As far as I can tell they are no where near the same block (505 cubes versus 359) A C is very, very large. If you did manage to fit it in the engine bay it would require some real tough front coil springs. Turning with that much weight up front would also get real hard on tires. It would still be cool though!

I once looked into that, the 8.3 is about four inches longer, the weight is no problem and if the length would work I would have done a cab lift for the hight.
The 5.9 is fine for the work I do, I just had a bunch of bad luck getting a defective thermostat that started all this. Built the engine, did not check thermostat because it was new and not showing any overheat and then I purchased a new long block that had the #53 ground off, it lost a head gasket, and it cracked. All within about two months, now getting into a while. Once a good engine is in the truck it will do fine as the first 241,000 was. A larger engine would only eat up any drive line I could put in it. I am already way over the capacity of the trans and rear. You would have to pull with a RV275 with an EZ to get the picture, It loves to sit there at 1800 to 2000 and just hold overdrive at speed. Gets better mileage also.

Contacted a lawyer on both issues and sent the certified letter to both Cummins and the seller of the cracked block. I have not been contacted on the block issue so may have to work for it. I do have a business receipt for a "New 5.9 cummins long block" with no as is or other problems, so it is a matter of time regardless. I don't really think that the seller is the bad guy, I think he got took also from his supplier, but I can only go back to him on it. It would be his business to follow up on his supplier. This has probably created the same financial problems for him as well. Been there and done that also.
The #53 was ground off the block on both sides, so it is sort of cut and dried, just will take some time. Such is life. No matter how it comes out, I will still be out a lot of running time (income) and a few thousand dollars. For instance, I bought 18 gallons of ready mix coolant from Cummins, Oil by the bucket, filters by the case, and so on. Right now it is most important to get the truck running reliable and soon.
