Lasik Surgery

Like many I am fed up w/ the glasses and need to go again. I work outside and way too dusty for contacts. Thinking about Lasik. Any body had it done looking for comments good or bad, would you do it again? worth the money? stay w/ the glasses? How to pick right Dr.?

Had it done to both eyes in '93. Best money I ever spent.
I was 20/200 right, 20/100 left. Now 20/20 right, 20/10 left.
I still am aware of teh ability to see peripheraly(sp?) with out having the "post" of my glasses in the way.
Now I cant stand even wearing sunglasses....

It realy worked out well for me.....

I have not had it done, but my sister in law did-She said it was the best money she EVER spent. She loves it, had both eyes done. There was a week or two that she had to be REALLY careful of what she did, etc. Based on what she has said go for it!!

Had it done 6 years ago and absolutely love it I couldn't see the big "E" on the eye chart prior to the surgery plus I had a stigmatism. I too had both eyes done at the same time. It was uncomfortable for a little while and my night vision isn't as good as I remember but not bad enough to need any correction. Nighttime and rain while driving seems to be the worst but I still don't need glasses to drive.

I do still need reading glasses in low light conditions or when the print is small (8 font or less) but I just bought a few of the throw away ($5 or less) reader glasses and keep them around the house and office for those moments.

Hopefully your insurance will cover it. When I had mine done, no insurance and was all out of pocket. Still, if I knew what I know now, I'd have done it!

You need to do some research with who you want to operate on you. Go and visit the place, watch an operation, talk to some patients and don't base your decision only on the cost . Ask how many operations he or she has done and if they will be doing all the follow up check-ups or if they are "passing" you to an assistant or associate for the follow-up. Is the facility new? Does it have back-up power in the unlikely event the power goes out in the middle of surgery? You have only one set of eyes and confidence in your decision is a must!

I'm no expert but did consider it for over a year (as I was saving some money) and waited till a co-worker had successfully had the surgery prior to me signing up.

Let us know what you decide and how things go. Feel free to PM me if you have any private questions you'd like to ask.

My mom had it. She said it's the best money she's ever spent. We're going to look into it for me. I'm getting tired of freaking contacts.

One more visit with little or no prescription change and I'm having it done. My eye doctor says that I'm too young to go for it until my eyes stop changing every visit...Thank God they haven't changed in 4 years

I'm sick of a $500 pair of glasses every 2 years...the price isn't too bad I guess, 2 year lens warranty and 2 time frame replacement...and I use them both up every time I'm hard on them

I had it done about 7 years ago after wearing contacts for over 35 years. The doctor suggested that I only have one eye done. Reason: so that I would not need glasses for reading. Now I have mono vision. The eye that was Lasik'd I have a hair over 20/20 but can't read close up. The other eye can read the smallest print just fine but can't see distance. No problems with getting the brain to adjust and automatically use the best eye for the situation. I don't even know it is happening. Only problem I have had is that my night vision is not quite the same when I have lights shining in my eyes, such as oncoming traffic. Depth perception is not a problem except in very, very low light on steps that do not have the edge of the step defined with a different color to the rest of the step, but that is a very minor problem. Would I do it again? YES.
As for selecting the best doctor to do it, find one that has done a few thousand Lasiks. In this case, cheaper is not always better, unless they are offering discounts to large companies as was the case when I had mine done. NEVER use a guy just starting in the Lasik business. Would you want him to 'practice' on your eyes. Remember - with this kind of surgery, in the majority of cases, the guy working on you has one chance. Corrective surgery after Lasik is not easy and may not 'take'. Be very picky and ask for his credentials and experience.

I had it done a year and half ago. Lasik Plus (nation wide) here in Atlanta did the deed. It was $3500 and is WONDERFUL.

I had a severe astigmatism in both eyes. It was like a -4.5 in the right eye and -4.2 in the left.

I see 20/25 in my right eye and 20/15 in the left. I could get a touch up in the right but don't see a need. With both eyes I can read the 20/15 line all day and NIGHT long.

I believe my night and rain vision is actually better. My depth perception had to be relearned but is as good or better.

Go get it done by the best you can find and you wont be dissapointed.

Never had a pair of contacts fit right and now I have permitly blood shot eyes. Looks kind of freaky but it doesn't bother my. It would be nice to got it nad never worry about my eyes again.

O.K. I will go and hear what a couple of different doctors have to say and try to make a decision from there. Sounds like every one that has had it done has no regrets

I've been doing the "monovision" thing for almost a year wearing one cantact. I plan on having the Lasik done on one eye after the first of the when I can get flex spending added to my insurance plan. I have several friends that have had the Lasik done, and not one has regretted it.

I had it done 2 months ago. I waited becasue the thought of someone messing with my eyes scared the crap out of me. Finally got up the nerve to get it done. Made the appointment on a Thursday and had it done Monday after work. Was back at work Tuesday with 20/20 in right eye and 20/15 in left.

I used a local Dr. that has done over 15000 operations. DO NOT pick a doctor based on price. My uncle did. Now he is legally blind.

I had lasik done on earlier this year on 2-11-05. It was the best money I had ever spent! My eyes had a redness problem for a about 6 months after the sergery...but that went away. My vision is 20/20 now and have absolutly no problems whatsoever! I can see perfectly...in ANY weather condition...day or night! My insurance (Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield) covered $1000 of the procedure too! so I only paid $2600 out of pocket! I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Get a good experienced doctor...DO YOUR HOMEWORK! before you select a doctor. Find out what questions to ask! These are your eyes we are talking about.....if you are blind you cant drive you big cool diesel truck anymore!!!

I had it done in 1998 and I would have done again. I had 20/400 and now I have 20/20 in one eye and 20/15 in the other eye. Paid with income tax return!
