What is the approximate labor charge to install a set of Bilstein shocks on the front and rear (could probably do rear myself) of a 2006 Dodge 2500 2WD? Thank you.

If you have some wrenches, sockets, a pair of vice-grips, and a jack you could do it yourself. Really simple job.

I just looked under the truck, looks pretty easy. I'm going to give it a shot next week.

The reason for this thread:

$525 parts/labor to replace shocks on wife's Expedition at local Ford dealer, including Ford oem shocks.

$1300 for shocks/labor (Monroe Sensatrac) quote from local BigO tire shop.

A very large discrepancy in quotes. I think the $1300 quote is . The Dodge looks easier than the 04 Expedition.

I just did all 4 of mine and it took maybe 15 minutes a piece at the most. You'll say "that was easy".

525$ Good god! I would have done it for less than half that... I post on CraigsList myself for auto service work. Perhaps if you REALLY dont want to do it you can find someone on there you deem competent and have them do it. Email me if you want the "All Data" write up and pics for doing the shocks yourself.

The shocks from Geno's, since they are having a sale would be $225 plus shipping, so figure from there.

If you know what end of the hammer does what, I think you'll be okay.

Thanks for all who replied. I replaced all four shocks today, and overall was pretty east, but still took me a couple of hours, had a little trouble loosening the right front top nut, wanted to spin the shaft.

Factory shocks were still relatively stiff to compress by hand, not sure if Bilstein is that much of an improvement, a little harder to hand compress, but haven't road tested yet. Hopefully the Bilsteins will handle my massive 245 70R19.5 tires/wheels.

If I'm not mistaken an Expedition has struts which cost a lot more and take much longer to install.
$525 is actually a pretty good price if that's the case.

I thought so too, especially when local Big O quoted $1300 for Monroe Sensatrac.

After driving on the Bilsteins, absolutely no difference in ride from stock shocks.

I'm really confused. I read lots of guys saying there's a night and day difference from stock to bilsteins and others say no difference at all. What's up?
I just placed an order with genos, and now I'm wondering if I'm wasting my money. oh well, guess I'll find out for myself.

you'll like them, eventually the stock ones will blow out anyways. maybe these guys just changed theirs before the stockers went bad.
