KYB shocks. Are they OK?
Where I live I cant seem to get Bilsteins without ordering them. Not that big of a deal but if I have trouble then I have to send something back, go without until I get what I need, pay shipping, ect. Pain in the butt. I can get KYB's just down the road. I hear KYB's use the same design as Bilsteins. And I hear they are good. I can get a "high performance" version or regular ones. Not sure the difference. And they are a few bucks cheaper. Has anyone used them?

The KYB MonoMax is a twintube design like the Bilstiens. According to our catalogue the part numbers are 565018 for the fronts and 565019 for the rears. I have not upgraded mine yet, the factory shocks haven't driven me crazy yet, but when I replace them it will be with the KYB's. The other version that KYB offers, Gas Adjust, would not be as well suited to our trucks, expecially when towing.

Generally KYB"s are better than Rancho, can't comment on the Bilstiens though.
I had a demo at a 4x4 shop from the KYB distributor. That is what will be on my truck next when the time comes.

Didn't have good luck with the first set of Rancho 9000's or the warranty replacement set, so I switched out to KYB Monomax's and added quad shocks up front. So far, very impressive on interstates and very rough dirt roads I drive all the time, towing or empty. The KYB Monomax's have high gas pressure and very strong mounting hardware - rings, rubber, nuts & bolts, etc. Rides a little stiffer, but that's no problem with a CTD. 5000 miles and no trouble; we'll see how they last. Bilsteins are in a class by themselves. You have a much more to worry about on your Ram than a failure of one of these!
I've run Bilsteins on all my autos for the past 25 years without a single failure.

THE KYB'S ARE AN EXCELLENT CHOICE. I HAVE BEEN RUNNING THEM FOR 3 YEARS ON MY 99 2500. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS.I AM NOT SURE WHAT MODEL I HAVE, BUT THEY ARE THE REALLY HIGH COMPRESSION GAS SHOCKS.
