Knicked rear main seal housing
I drilled 2 holes in the seal on opposite sides of each other and ended up knicking the metal housing on the outside of the seal. The knick goes past where the seal stops and I'm not sure it will seal. Has anyone done this? Will it seal or do I have to go get a whole new housing or is there a fix? Thanks.

I cracked mine on accident when pulling the old seal out I ended up having the replace that backing plate. The easiest way to change that seal is to take the backing plate completely off and work with it on a bench or something. If you don't get a new plate you could maybe throw a little bit of rtv around where the nick is. I would just et a new backing plate, it was like $40 and it was in stock...

Just get the part number off the old one and take that number to Cummins. They can hook you right up. Mine cracked when I was changing the rear seal. Ended up pulling the tranny a second time to replace the plate one cummins was opened again on monday.
