knew this was gonna happen.... power upgrade
Figured I would hold back and restrain myself from dipping into my till and gettin a module for my truck till I got my bonus, well "el cheapo" ( my boss ) wanted to hold onto his money as long as he could so I got my bonus today, had no idea what I was going to get so I didn't want to buy and then find out how much I got. Well now I got the bonus and I want to shop but all the shops seem to be closed for the holiday. I am torn between all the choices, have read all the posts about various boxes. I see a few that are super easy to install BD predator VA, I see others that do the pierce job, and more that plug in to many locations. Plugging in to a lot of spots doesn't scare me, Ill figure it out as all the extra connections seem to be for greater controll. That would be the banks six pack w speedloader and I think it will win me to its side, with all of its added auto protect modes and detection for slip. I don't haul heavy, truck is a daily driver and hunting rig. as for what I want it is to make up for the gearing loss with the 315's and to come out ahead as far as power. know it is a pipe dream but it would be nice to see a bit of smoke now and then. I see the same type questions all the time but if you were to buy one box so as not to need to buy another ever what would it be? Ts edge Bd Banks Van Aeken... the list goes on and on. thanks.

I really can't answer your question, but I met most of the diesel performance guys, and when I told them I ordered the TST PMCR, all of their jaws dropped, and they started asking the guy how much. Most of 'em had 70hp ezedge boxes. The general consensus between a few of the guys here, and Merrick, is that the PMCR box is best. I'll let you guys know when I get mine installed Tuesday, hopefully I'll get my cat removed about then and let you guys know if I got smoke.

sounds like 2 strong votes for this box so far.... any of our sponsors selling it? $849 with gauges is a bit steep but for a one time deal it sounds real interesting....

pacific engineering http://www.pacificp.com/pdf/2004priceguide.pdf . Just released there downloaders. regular or hot version, Im waiting for dyno infomation. 270 hp at the flywheel should make it competitive with the TST. Without all that wireing & conections. Also Edge juice is now available .

I have an EZ and it is a very nice "starter bomb", but if I was going to drop the cash on a "one time" box, my vote would have to be the TST PMCR. They should have all the bugs worked out by now, and the seperate HP and TQ adjustments would be very nice to play with. I would think the Banks stuff would be higher than the price of a TST.
The only thing I don't like about the TST is the look of the in cab-controler, but the day I decide to bite bullet and get one, I am going to run down to the local decal shop and see if they can make me a overlay for it that will match the trucks interior a little more.
Have fun, Merry Christmas,
Dave

I noticed you have the 48re, so i think it depends on how much self-control you have. If you can set next to a powerstroke at the red light, and not turn the tst up to a higher setting to blow his doors off. I would say go with the tst because of the awesome power it produces. On the other hand if you dont have that much self-control go with somethink like the edged ez. The stock 48re just wont hold up to the tst ran on the higher settings. Mine tranny died with only 10,000 miles with the tst. Lets say you have the self- control thing that many do not including me. Buy the tst pmcr and run it on the lower settings untill you can afford to upgrade you tranny, turbo, and so on. Just one other thing to remember the tst pmcr is like cocane, once you try it its hard to live without.

I have the banks six gun w/o the speed loader and am very happy with it. Plenty of power for bigger tires and enough ***** to pull most sports cars from stoplight to stoplight. Plus it has power reduction feature to keep your auto from slipping. It has never given me any problems and does not set any trouble codes. There is also a bypass plug for the harness so you don't don't have to unplug for any trips to the dealer.

I've been thinking about boxes for quite awhile also. Researching, learning, talking to owners etc. I can't help thinking that since we all have a basic electronically controlled fuel delivery/timing/transmission (auto) blah blah already run by a couple of onboard computers? why bother fooling them with more boxes/chips? My truck has a standard 16 pin canbus connection in the cab. The newer big rigs actually carry small laptops or palm pilots that plug into it. Without getting to long and boring I think with the right software a computer savy owner could gain access to the ecm and who knows what. But you still have to drill a pyro as the stock sensors are limited. By the way I have seen rice rockets with performance laptops...........cool stuff.........Johnson
