Well like most of us that havn't killed the kdp , I thought that I would be fine and that I wouldn't ever have a problem. My crank seal started leaking so I decided to kill two birds with one stone. Pulled the cover and the pin was sticking almost 1/2 inch out I am guessing! Can't see to well in there, but I was able to grab the pin with my fingers and it was quite loose, like the pin was about to fall out. The tab took me a whole 5 minutes to make. The only hard part of this whole ordeal was standing on a chair to reach into the engine compartment and cleaning all of the grease that had built up on the cover.

I hang out on 2 forums...there are around 8000 member on this board and another 4000 on the other one, but it seems that this is a VERY common problem even though DC and Cummins say it isnt. We are only a very small portion (maybe 6000 on both boards) of the actual number of 12V owners yet I cant believe how many posts Ive read that say the KDP was the same as yours. I guess the most important thing to get from this is that if you have a 90-2000 CTD - you better make sure the KDP is jigged or tabbed. I feel sorry for the people that dont have access to sites like this and have know idea what can happen to their engine. They are oblivious until they get that big repair bill.

I just did my '96 truck last weekend. The KDP was about 1/2 way out. I'm doing my wife's truck next weekend.... if it makes it til then. Hers is a '95. Mine had 122K on it and hers has 140k. I'll let ya'll know if hers came out any.

Alright, already!
You guys are scaring me to death. What parts are needed to do it (without the jig), how much time does it take, and how difficult is it for someone who is only moderately mechanically inclined? I have been saying I need to get this done, but I have been putting it off. My truck has 87k miles, and I don't feel like paying for all the damage this silly little pin is capable of causing.
Any help would be appreciated. I know this has been discussed in other threads, but I haven't had luck using the search function on it, since it's mentioned in just about every other 12V discussion topic!

Hey,whiff I have told guys that if they change thier own oil and fuel they can do it {IMO},my computer is down or I would email the instructions to you now,I am at a buds house using his,anyway go to www.turbodieselregister.com and go to forums then the 12v second gen and the first two topics are about the repair,if someone here does not get the info to you by tonight when I am up an running I will get it to you,goodluck and really it is not a hard thing to rectify.
