killed ANOTHER pump with too much fuel pressure

crapola! pump # 3 took the nap today. 40 psi netted me 10,000 miles beforeit puked. this is getting almost funny......but not quite. I kill em' with too little, and kill em' with too much. I gots the luck I tells ya. at least this one is a dealer buy. I kinda think my ride is going to get a sign on it this time...a for sale sign.

40psi is way too much pressure and you are blaming the truck for your own mistakes.

40 psi!!! Way to much for the VP44! 20-22psi is the upper limits for that pump.

You cant blame the truck or the parts for this mistake - its all on you...

Yup, 20 psi at idle is PLENTY of pressure. 40 psi...wow, thatll blow the seals for sure.

It will be interesting to see how long it goes... My pressure reading is coming off the top of the fuel canister, so I don't really know for sure how much pressure the vp is seeing. I've read there is about a 6 avg. psi drop from the canister to the vp44 inlet. I couldn't keep a stock lift pump in the truck until I added the Holley Blue as a pusher. Only time will tell.

Until then I'm not going to worry.

I wonder if all the guys running Don M's Helix cam with mechanical lift pump feel about high pressures going to the vp44?

Don't most running a mech left pump tone down the pressure a bit too? Ph4tty is running a mech pump, but I don't think he is running 40 psi pressure.

Tiger rag is running a mechanical pump. Maybe he'll chime in here.

I'm running @23 idle with my Blue and LP. I do have a big line between the FF and VP though. Only small line left is between the LP and FF. That's because i ran out of fittings. and the guage is off the top of the FF housing.

puked one at 30psi, and replaced my lp, which now rolls at 35-40 psi. smoked another. the seal they are poping is supposed to be able to withstand a bunch of pressure......or not. the good news is it is a 2hr fix. and about $3.00, but still too little....too much.... too sick of this 24 valve headache. I can't drive my truck across the street w/o worring about it. 12v here I come!

Just so you know, 12V's are NOT without problems. Sure they dont have lp and IP problems but they can have other issues. As well, there IP's werenot designed to run on ULSD, whereas the VP-44 was.
