Keyless entry remote questions

Hi all-

I have a couple keyless entry questions for you. First, is there any way to check to see if a '96 came with keyless entry other than running the VIN through the dealer for an options printout? Next, which style remote would a '96 have come with, the smaller square style, or the longer, more oval (newer) style? I have both types of remotes on hand, I just need to know which one is correct for that year (I can't remember the cutoff year). Last, for a '96, are the remotes programmable by the owner, or are the like the newer ones, and require the DRB (dealer scan tool) to program?

Thanks for the info!

Jim

I just checked my '96 service manual and could find no reference remote locks or keyless entry for that year. The '96 I just sold was loaded with all options but no remote. Maybe it wasn't offered that year.
