While researching a home generator, I came across this statement-is it true? I don't intend to uses my home heating fuel in my truck or tractor, just curious.

K-1 Kerosene and #2 home heating oil are exactly the same as #1 and #2 Diesel. The only difference is that red dyes are added for
identification to kerosene and home heating oil for highway tax purposes. It's also about 20-40¢ per gallon cheaper, because there are
less taxes paid on it. Just don't get caught on the road with it in your diesel car or truck. Your local fuel oil dealer can deliver fuel
direct to your house, and you can use a 275 or 500 gallon home heating oil tank for fuel storage.

Kerosene is a cousin to heating oil (hi sulfur diesel fuel, untaxed) and highway fuel (low sulfur, on road, taxed fuel).. it is just refined more than the other two.

Kerosene has a lot of the waxes/parfins removed so it burns cleaner.. And that is why they add kero (tax paid) to diesel fuel in the winter so the waxes wont gel.. It is also why heater mfg only recommend kero for their heaters.

BUT when you remove these wax/parifin you are also removing lubricity of the fuel as well.. If you look at a owners manual for the 12v engines I believe it says you can run kero/jet fuel and a few other distilates.. BUt the 2nd Generation only recommends diesel fuel since the lubricity is a problem to start with..
