A pyrometer measures exhaust gas temperature. And you don't need a kdp kit you just need a front crank seal and some good rtv gasket maker. Take the front cover off and just use a punch and a hammer to mushroom the aluminum housing and distort the hole slightly so that the pin cannot come out. Then replace the frons seal and put some rtv on the gasket and slap it all back together.

you could in theory remove the pin altogether but its nice to have if one ever has to remove the front gear case from the engine, not to mention the hassle it would be to remove the pin without dropping it into the gears or into the pan and not being able to find it, much easier to drive it all the way in and smash some metal over top so it can't come out and it should be good forever!

i actually did that it made a little piece of steal to bolt over the pin, so double the protection....i was lucky enough to find a guy that had a longer bolt with the right threads, i also took each cover bolt that was inside the gear housing one at a time out and cleaned and lock tighted into place and re-torqued them.....you have to roll the engine over by hand to get to a couple of the bolts but there is a great how to article in the sticky section of this site

Usually the cover comes off cleanly and the existing gasket can be re-used
even without sealant. Just need a new crank seal.
