Red thread locker on bolts under cover, Clear piece is an shaft alignment tool. Used only to protect seal until in place.

If you follow these directions, it will be a breeze.

Once you place the cover back into place and push it on the clear piece (alignment tool) will slide out. Hope that helps.

I could not figure out how to get the seal over the aliment guild thingy so I pitched it and lined it up by eye, carefully installed the cover. No leaks in 2 years.

Just wondering...what would a shop charge to do this task? Looks straight forward with the tst directions, but wondering what some of you have paid to have it done? Thanks

It really is not that hard, just general wrenching. You will probably spend more time cleaning the parts for the installation process than wrenching itself. The TST instructions are good, it is not a high tech job. Wait, but not too long, for a nice day, get a friend or two, a beer or two and go for it.

Yup... Thats how I (we) did it too. I wanted my timing done as well so we killed two birds that day, he had the specialty tools. It is fun to take a look at the geartrain on these engines, its no wonder they last so long, heavy stuff compared to the "other" brands.

Use the blue thread locker , red requires heat , especially for the smaller bolts .
Stuff the guide into the seal , then after getting cover in place & seal fulling over shaft , pull the guide through , also this is a special seal requiring no lube oil , must be clean & dry .

I'm into mine right now. It's not bad. the worst is getting the fan shroud and fan clutch off. I was wondering if anyone could direct me to a torque schematic for the case and cover bolts?

I've got the torque and measured everything with a caliper and should be able to get by without the speedy sleeve. oughta have it together tomorrow. I found a washer with the correct size hole in it and enough meat around the sides that it would cover the pin and ground the sides down to make a tab then installed it. It bent it a little bit in the install seeing as my dowel pin wouldn't go flush but that seems to be an occasional case. Mine is now tabbed and ready for action. I ordered the gasket and seal from carquest and that seems to be correct other than an extra piece that looks like a seal but I can't find where it goes. the bore is the same as the crankshaft seal bore but the od is way too small for that app. Might be for pulling the timing case. Thats what I figured. Can anyone tell me what year the KDP was no longer an issue? I have a few friends with 24 valves and I was wondering if they are suceptable.

From what I've read the KDP is only on 12V engines.

I've been told early 98 24v's occasionally will have a loose tab. Mine too was stuck, so I tried banging it in and then just put the tab over it since I couldn't get it to move.

This is what NOT to do!

This moron has hit dowel pin stuck between the case and the cam gear. Then he's reving it up! Makes me cringe to see it.
