Angry KDP struck!!!!!!!

I have a 98' with about 77,000 miles original miles on my ram. I noticed oil leaking but didn't expect a cracked timing cover. The dowel was sitting at the bottom of the case. I didn't know about the KDP until after. Is this something Dodge or Cummins will take care of? or do I have to pay for the entire repair? Thanks....

Your warranty has long since expired. You're on your own I'm afraid.

I'm sure you're gonna tab it now, but just in case be sure to tab it/jig it when you get the repair done so it won't happen again. Sorry for your bad luck.

And welcome to the site by the way!

Yes, the crack is just below the fan drive. Oil was running out of the case.

If they Dodge/Cummings aren't going to fix it then why wasn't it a recall?

they(cummins) know about it, but it's to late to really take responsibilty is the way I see it. But they know about it, that doesn't mean they'll fix any damage though, lol. It's a easy fix, but like u realized it's a pain if it gets you before u fix it

I'd guess it's not a recall because it doesn't always happen. And when it does happen it is usually outside of warranty,

Better check your timing gears.

I must have just rolled between the gear and the case. You were lucky. You can do this job yourself. Get the TST KDP kit and a new cover.

New cover won't be necessary, but a new case will. look for it to run about $300 for the repair if you do it yourself. Not to mention the down-time. BT,DT, got the T-shirt and refuse to wear it. :P

Sure would have made our lives a lot easier wouldn't it?

BTW there is no "g" in Cummins... Sorry to be picky lol.

Its not a hard fix, just takes a little time, and you've gotta have the right tools, but most people should have everything you need and you can always improvise.

If you wanna see some pics read this thread here, I took pics of everything as I went along.
