KDP a problem ???
I hear about this KDP in the 12V forum. Is the KDP a problem in the 24V engines or did Cummins fix it? Any information would be appreciated.

Killer Dowel Pin. The KDP thread in the 12V forum gives a good back ground. This thread on TDR gives detailed information on the pin and how to replace it.

From what Ive heard and read, the design wasnt changed until after 2000 model year

I'm not sure even Cummins knows when exactly the problems ended. There is a thread on TDR that shows a 2001 hd a KDP slipping out.
As above, I have not SEEN it, only read about it...

Yeah, I think they probably used the old timing cases until there wasnt any left and then switched to the new case. I have a 2001 would hate to have KDP problems with it since it not really supposed to be an issue. ???

Re:KDP a problem ???
I have a '99--truck was built 5/1, engine was built in 3/99...
I got on the jig list over on the TDR at was going to do the set screw method on mine, just for piece of mind. I hit the dowel pin drilling through the case, pulled the cover and the pin was 3/4 of the way out. I finished the repair, but I still believe its too easy of a fix to not do it on ANY 1st or 2nd Gen truck...I posted my findings over at the TDR, but I don't have any pictures of it. Sorry...

Re:KDP a problem ???
The engine build date of my 98.5 is early FEB 98.
My engine has the old style case. I tabbed the KDP about a week after my 5 year / 100k mile engine warranty expired. The pin moved about 1/16" before it bottomed out in the hole when I tapped it back in. The pin was snug, but it definately did not have an interference fit.
Here is my pin before the Tab Job.

Re:KDP a problem ???
I'd always assumed that the KDP wasn't a problem in my '02 -- built in late January 2002. Or should I be concerned about left-over timing cases at that late date?

I think an 02 is pretty safe. I assume my 01 is.
