Did the KDP job yesterday using tab method as outlined in the Forum. Read all posts regarding KDP and found all information necessary to do job, including "tricks" mentioned by many. I used a strap wrench to hold fan pulley and damper while lossening and tightening. Easier with two persons, but possible with one. One thing I found only in one Forum posting but is necessary to know is that damper sensor gap is .050. I could not find that in my manual. Other than that, job went pretty much as described in Forum. Truck has 91,000 miles; used to tow 12,000 pound trailer. Tab appeared not to have moved much, no more than perhaps 1/16 inch. Anyway, thanks to the Forum members for all of the good tips.

Congrats GaryGus. It is a good feeling to know that a little work just saved you THOUSANDS of dollars in repairs. Plus it makes you feel good to know you did it yourself. Now you need to fill in you sig so we can help you with other questions.

Congradulations on the repair, Might I add to tell all others you come across,and save them some hard earned money if thiers goes out and tell them how easy it was to secure the dowel. Oh by the way mine was just reversed from yours,it lacked maybe 1/16 to 1/4 from falling,and truck had 90k miles. Goodluck RIck

I did my work truck today. 98 12valve 122k miles pin was out about a 1/4". Built the tab out of a thick fender washer. Job was pretty easy about 4 hrs total, hardest part for me was seating the new front main seal. Glad to get it done never know if it was about fall into the geartrain. Tim
