I found K1 for around 2.09 a gallon here at home. Wondering if we can burn this is the 600 cummins or not ?? Or maybe blend it 50/50 with diesel ?? My 2003 stated in the book that it could burn K1, but I have not seen anything on the new 600 series cummins, thought maybe you could add just lubricity to the K1 and burn it. Any suggestions ??

I was also wondering the same thing any thoughts? I thought the BTU's were a lot less so maybe some power loss.

Where did it state that your 03 could burn K1? Interesting. I can get it quite a bit cheaper than #2 now also.

Kerosene and No.1 are basically the same fuel. No.1 though has to meet certain lubricity requiremnets in order to be sold as vehicle fuel. Kerosene has no real lburicant in it so I would be very careful in burning it straight. Here is a web site you can go to to read up on the fuels. Good luck.

Make sure to run some oil with it; at least @ 5% Or 1 quart of oil for every 20 gallons of KEROSENE.

It runs pretty well.....

Try this recipe:
1. Half tank of Diesel
2. 2 quart of used or new motor oil
3. 10 gallons of Kerosene.

You'll never know its in there.

Kerosene prices also don't include Highway/Road Use taxes.
Kinda like running "Red".

I believe it was in my owners manual. It stated you could run kerosene, or jet fuel as an alternative fuel, I know it was in the owners manual of my 03'

I looked in my 03 owner's manual and cannot find any mention of K1 Kerosene. It does talk about #1 and #2 diesel...which to use when and what blend, etc.

So, do you think you could run K1 Kerosene and an additive like Howe's or PS? How do you think that would work out?

I have seen the military run JP8 in 2nd Gens for years and it runs just fine, but eats up injection pumps in a hurry. I would think if you could find the right recipe to make it burn clean (add cetane) and lube everything correctly, it would be OK. By then though, you will probably have as much money in time and additives as regular diesel would cost you.

It burns fine on motor oil with a mix ratio of %5.
Saving a dollar a gallon is a big deal to me (and probably to others).

Used motor oil is cheap too!!

Time? dumping it into the tank takes about 5 minutes tops (mixed).

I have a lot of stanadyne performance formula and was wondering if running it in the K1 would add enough lubricity to it, or would it be better to just add a quart of oil per 20 gallons of K1 like you suggested. ? Just wondered also on the stanadyne, do you just add ratios to K1 the same as if you would add it to diesel ??

I am no "lubricity" expert by any means.
But Diesel fuel additives will probably not add enough lubricity at the 5% mix ratio.

I think coming up with maybe a 3 or 4% oil mix ratio then the rest your fuel additive would be nice.
Or maybe even the 5% oil and then some additive to bring up the cetane rating.

I read an article from cummins that said in 98 and up 24 valve trucks that they didn't reccomend the use of K1 but if you had to then to add 1 gal of lube oil to 20 gal of K1.

By Lube Oil is that just engine oil or is that an additive

From what I have seen the K1 has Red Dye in it.
