Just realized that Goerend's shop is near me....

I was going to shoot him an e-mail about TC's. I went to the contact page of his website and realized that his shop is 2 hrs away. So I did what any of you would have done!

I have to say that I was completely overwhelmed. I spent over 2 hrs talking to Dave about valve bodies, Transgo's, and TC's. He didn't say anything bad about TG. He did explain the difference between his VB's and the TG kits. Most of what he said was waaay over my head but a few highlights:

He is not a fan of drilling the holes for the TC. If you later add a good TC (single or triple), lockup will be hard on your input shaft.

He likes to replace input shafts around 125k miles and puts oem in unless you need billet. (apparently the stress over time causes failure, too).

He was confident that a VB (or the TG kit) with a single disk TC would be good for 400 - 450 hp if you aren't stupid with it. If you want more, you need the triple disk and billet shafts.

He quoted me 1800 for a VB and TC, including R&R. Now I just need to decide..............Transgo or Goerend..........big money difference.

Dave is only a little over two hours from me as well. I decided to let him take care of my tranny; don't like down time and I was in and out in a day. Couldn't be happier with his tranny. Good luck in your choice.

You wont be unhappy with a goerend tranny. I had a little trouble with mine in july, called and left Dave a message 3 times. Once on a thursday night, a friday night and a sunday afternoon. Every time he called me back, usually within a few hours to try and help me as much as possible. Dave actaully ended up shipping out a brand new tranny for me to get the problem fixed. Ill I had to do was give him the address of the shop to ship and install the tranny and he took care of the rest.

Excellent product, excellent customer service, and I would use him again no questions asked.

I am in SW Iowa and drove up to Dave's shop to have my tranny done by him. No complaints here.

if you have a billet input shaft that is good for a lot of power drilling 1 hole wont be all that bad from what i understand. i realize that it isnt ideal but i think that is intended for guys who drag or pull! if your smart with it i wouldnt worry about drilling out the vb. also the trans go kit ramps up pressures different to give you a different shift where as goerends might give you smoother shifts and not the jerky ones. i personally put the trans go in along with everything billet on the bottom half of the trans. i will be doing an entire rebuild someday because i want a different tc to get that power down. so i went with the trans go for the price and i will prolly use the same vb when i do my build also i drilled 1 hole not 2 and like how it shifts. if you end up going with the trans go and have a 03 or 04 there is a step in there that says something like "this washer is a part throttle valve washer and is only needed on transmissions wiht the throttle valve motor ie 04.5 and up years" put the washer in i didnt and i will be taking it back out and putting it back in duh on my part i have an 03 and didnt put it in i wish i would have. also i guess the output shafts are pretty strong. it takes a lot to break them there is someone on here with the stock shaft who is making like 650 horse and doing 4wd launches at the strip with like 18 psi of boost so you really have to be thrashing the thing to break it

You would have regretted it had you drilled the holes and then added a TC. Everything is OK until you get into the throttle a little with a load behind it, then when it shifts into OD, it will put your dentures on the dash!
