Just an observation last night at -9 F

I installed my winter front on grill yesterday. It was down to -9 F or -21 C last night when i left for a gathering about 30 miles away. I came out to start truck about 3 hours later and the overhead said -1 C or 31 F, I knew it had not warmed up that much outside. The heat from engine sure stays under hood longer with winter front installed. As soon as i hit the highway the overhead reading dropped to -24c or -11 F.

Ive noticed similar event when sitting parked idling on hot days. My over head will read 112F when it was only 98F or so. I guess, it is just the location of the temp probe and what situation you are in as to how accurate it is.

I will add that the WTS light only stayed lit for about 3 seconds then went out, engine started just like summer.

I've noticed with my winter front installed that the overhead temp is way off after the engine's warmed up.

It would not be giving as good reading because the probe is behind the grill, so if you block the air flow through the grill it will give false readings.

My original intent was to say that the heat is kept under the hood for a longer period of time with winter front on.

I moved my temp probe after experiencing higher values even when driving. Moved it to beside the driving lights and no more issues. Still reads warmer after its been sitting, but once underway, all is well, er I mean cold...

Don't know about the later models but my '95s read the temp it was when the ignition is turned off for a couple minutes the next time it's started.
My understanding is this is normal.

I have noticed that the truck holds its heat much longer with the winter front. One thing I do in order to try to help make it a little easier to start in the winter is park the truck far enough up the driveway that it is sandwiched between my house and the house next door. We get 90% of our winds out of the southwest and that keeps them off the truck.

I got mine from Cabela's. Try doing a search on here, the topic just came up a few weeks ago.

The Cadillac Escalade had a problem like that, well it was their problem. The location of the outside air temp sensor would give false readings and people would complain. So gm had a bulletin on it to move the sensor to xx location. The sensor was right in front of the radiator/condensor.

I'd say your right, your winter front contained enough heat so when you keyed on the sensor took a reading and wa-la, 31 degrees to the positive.
