Just installed a propane kit

Just installed this propane kit:

Going on a 400km trip tommorrow(travelling light just a quad and some water) and on Friday I'm loading up the camper/trailer/Jeep and heading thru the mountains for 2 weeks so we'll see how she does. I bought it mostly for milage increase. Anyone else running propane? How do you like it?

Cool, let us know how it affects your mileage and egt's. Im thinkin I need to do something to increase mileage.

Our heavy haul trucks are equipped with propane; the drivers absolutely love it and say there is a huge power gain and fuel mileage increase. We are actually updating the injection system and they are going from liquid to gas injection or something like that.

Id be real interested to see the costs side by side. figure the BTU's per unit of volume and see if it really is saving some money or not.
power will be up, sure.. but Id also worry about head gaskets because of the lower flash point.

Propane won't save you money and it certainly isn't the safest way to make more power.

But propane IS about the cleanest burning fuel a diesel can consume, it's a great way to extend range and help the engine run nice and clean-- those are the only good reasons I see for propane.

Ran half my trip today with it on and half off(600km total). Have not done the math but the overhead computer showed a 1.5mpg increase with propane vs without. Once I refill I will be able to do some hand calculations.

For me I would go with water inj instead.. Easier to fill up at the campground and easier to plumb. FWIW..

What you save in diesel you'll pay in propane. You can't look at mpg of diesel, what you need to figure out is your cost per mile including diesel AND propane used.

CLAYH how do u like the DTT torque coneverter and valve body
thinking of doing that do know what brand to get does it hold up to the injectors and the edge cranked up

WOW lots of negativity here! Unless you've run it and have numbers I can compare to you're not really adding anything to this thread but hot air!

Anyway as I said I want to see if it will add ECONOMY to my rig(yes I'll subtract the cost of propane from any MPG increase I see). Even if it extends my range a bit I'd be happy. Not interested in any power gains which is why I didn't go meth.

The DTT valve body and TC seem to holding up well. I do get some noticable shudder when towing heavy(10K), when towing light(4K) I can just barley notice it if paying attention. When I filled it originally I put ATF+3 as thats what the instructions said to do. On talking with DTT the ATF+3 is causing the shudder(they failed to update their instructions). Now they want you to use Dex III and add the modifier package, too bad they didn't include a note and bottle of it. GRRR!!! So they instructed me to dump the ATF+3, All $120 worth! And refill with dex III. I did that last week and shifts seem smoother, before it really banged thru the gears, but I have yet to tow heavy to see if the shudder is gone.

But to answer your question is does seem to be holding up to the RV275 and Edge. Have about 15,000kms on it now. Power is great, egts not bad, I think the Edge is pulling the fuel back a bit to keep it in check. Towing with my camper/trailer/jeep(approx 10K) I still have enough power to pull out and pass slow RVs, even on the uphill passing lanes. Do have to slow down for those LONG assents due to high egts and high engine temps. The deep tranny pan seems to keep the tranny temps in check though.

I've leaving on my trip tomorrow, not sure if I'll get any useful numbers for you on the trip due to unfamiliar hills and such. Also yesterday was a waste as the system wasn't actually working. The mpg increase I saw was probably due to the headwind I had coming back. Turns the regulator was stuck and not flowing propane. Noticed today when filling up that the propane tank was still full. DOH! After messing around a bit I got it working.


Soo I'm gone camping for two weeks, see ya suckers!!!!

I am very interested in knowing your numbers too and how far it really streches your tank cause that will save you money too in the effect that you can choose where to fill up and get better price
