Just installed a new TPS

I had my tranny rebuilt two months ago. Billet coverter, shift kit and custom valve body..... The TPS always had low voltage so it never shifted right. I put a new TPS on tonight. I have 5 volts with TPS harness unplugged. But I could not get my Volt meter into the back of the connector when plugged back into the TPS ( I read all the tricks to get the volt meter into the back of the plug but I had to come inside and help the kids with homework).....

I set the TPS full back and full counter clockise. Truck shifts great. Has no issues with Over drive or any other gear. Can I have to much voltage at idle and cause an issue? I will take it back to my tranny guy and throw it on his computer to see where I am at on Friday. But right now truck runs great....... Just want to make sure I won't hurt anything if the voltage is to high? Thanks....

The way I measure the voltage with the connector plugged back together is take about 4" of stranded wire, strip about 3/4" off each end, on one end cut all the strands of wire off except one.
You can then insert that single strand into the female side of the connector before you plug it back together and have a nice place to clip your meter.

And as long as it's shifting well and the TQ unlocks when you're coming to a stop, there's no issues with the voltage being set where you have it right now.

Infidel thanks for the tip. And 98 thanks for the info. Truck runs great. What a difference a new TPS makes.
