Just bought truck. Odd noises & Questions
Hi guys im now officially a 2006 4x4 2500 Quad Cab 5.9L w/ six speed manual transmission owner with 48,000 miles. I have some questions though so hopefully yall can help me gain some knowledge on these trucks.
The truck has a airdog lift pump to the cp3 which is great but i noticed once i filled the truck up the fuel gauge only read a quarter tank why is that?
Also the truck has a southbend clutch or so the salesman claims which i somewhat believe considering it has alot stiffer clutch than a 6.7 manual i test drove. So im kinda of happy about the clutch but the tranny seems to be making a metallic noise from low through fifth gear and then sixth its gone. Also when i push in the pedal it sounds like a steering pump is going out. Whats up with the noises?
Thanks for any input and your time,
CB

The G56 transmissions are talkers. On the two I've run I could hear the "bearings" in 6th, which is the opposite of yours. I don't think you should hear any noises when you push the clutch in, sounds like throwout bearing?
Sounds like someone messed up the sending unit.
With the "SB" master/slave cylinder the clutch should feel almost like stock, (but you may have the 3rd gen stock setup) however you'll get a rattle at idle and more gear rattle noise at low RPM-s (~below 1400)

thanks
it definetly doesnt feel stock it feels more like the clutch on my deere and it does make some ugly noise when i put in the clutch.
I took the truck in yesterday to a local diesel shop and the guy at the counter said the sound is normal and the clutch is stiff due to it possibily being a dual. I guess ill just wait till i burn it out to replace it with something thats easier on my ears and leg

The float arm is probably stuck on the draw straw. Get under the truck, loosen the big plastic nut holding the canister on, and rotate the canister about an eighth turn one way. Tighten, see if it changes. If not, go a 1/4 the other way. Don't force it.

They’ll run any RPM you want.
Realistically I don’t think anything below 1400 is good for the drive train components because of the engine harmonics. The stock dual mass damper flywheel rids them while destroying itself.
Some guys say ~1900 might be the sweet spot for running empty mileage, but if you have 3.73’s and the early G56 you be speed limited if you try to run 1900 RPMs.
