just bought a 1990 dodge CTD

I just bought a 1990 dodge cummins, and I was wondering what I can do to get more power and black smoke. I don't have a whole lot of money, I am putting the wife through college. So really I don't have any money . I just need some ideas. If anybody could help me it would be great.

thanks

welcome newbie,
the reason no one answered yet is that all there seems to be in this forum anymore is the discussion of MORE POWER R_ R_ R_ R_ . use the search, then ADVANCED and search only this forum (1st gen- all topics) and you can read until your eyes bleed. go to the 'stickys' and look at all the technical things they have saved.
I'm in the same boat as you w/o the college- yet.
4" exhaust
bump pump timing/pump tweaks(in sticky)
homemade air box.

send her for mechanical diesel/turbocharging engineering so we can all benefit :-).
