Desided to try out the Smarty Jr. after waiting sence Christmas for the low smoke tune 5.0.
We went to the beech a few days ago. On the way down I used the stock program , from Huntington WV to Myrtle Beech about 550 miles and I got on three fill ups 10.48 mpg average .
I have a 9000 lb 34 ft travel trailer and the truck was a 05 4x4 with 3.73 gears and we drove 65-70 mph. I-64 east then I-77 south to Columbia SC then I-20 and 501.
On the way back we put in the 40 hp tune # 1, we tooled around for a few days down there and then started back.
We came back 501 then up through Darlington on US -52 to I-77 at Wytheville VA area then on north to I-64 to home, filled up twice and averaged 10.2 and beleive it or not I drove the same nice and easy.
It does have more down low power and If you drive in tow/haul and keep the converter locked it is really torquey. I'm doing a mpg test now that I'm home to check out the improvements if any.

By the way the low smoke thing, if you crowd it off idle if does lay a good puff and then it clears up, when it kicks down it will too but if drive it normal and I mean normal like I drive its not too bad, glad I waited for the newest low smoke tune.
On this tune it seems to make its power down low in the rpm's. I have not tried tune 2 or 3, probably will not try 3. With the converter locked up it lets me see how bad these trucks need a tighter converter!
Anybody check to see the differances in tune 1 and 2 ?
Also the egt's were about the same as stock 1300* was the hi on long hard pulls and boost was the same as stock 30 psi.

I tried number #2 when I got it for two tanks (I am on a third tank and not looking good). Driving a round trip from Norcal to Socal on the I-5 w/ cruise set at 70 mph. I lost 2 mpg from stock hp in which I get between 18-20 mpg. I set it yesterday to #1 setting to see what I get.

Hauled my 5th wheel from Reno Nv to Seattle via Susanville,Medford then I-5 to Seattle and back. Had it on Smarty Jr level 2 the entire trip and drove the posted speed limits except in Ca. with thier dumb 55 limit for anything that is towing something. Hand cal was 13.8. Very happy with the power and mileage.
