john deere hy-trans fluid

I've been reading on a turbo gas site where alot of guys are using johndeere hy-trans in there race and street cars. Has anyone used it in the autos behind a cummins? There are two different viscosities, one is very close to dextron and the other is higher viscosity. I'm going to call my trans builder next week and ask him about it.
The fluid is of really good quility and is use for rearend lube as well as the wet brakes in tractors I think.

I use the stuff all the time in tractors but I've never heard of it in an truck tranny. It is used in all kinds of JD transmissions and some are comparable to auto's, it might work. I'd definitely ask around first though

On a site called www.theturboforums.com there is a large thread in the other tech questions part about using hy-trans fluid. Some of the racers on that sight even say they blend it with regular trans fluid to change the stall speed up and down some. There are some charts on that sight showing the viscosity and other quilities of different fluids.
Someone smarter than me ( which don't take much) needs to check this out and give us some answers.

I've heard of people trying it before but I don't think it's worth the risk myself. In my opinion our trucks either have a cheap automatic which needs all the help it can get to hold up or they have an expensive built automatic and why risk killing a $6,000 transmission to save a few dollars a year on oil.

It's not saving on the oil I'm looking at, the quality. From what I can gather from the charts they make two different hy-trans fluids, one is almost the same viscosity of transmission fluid but will not foam and will stand higher heat and alot higher pressures. The other has higher viscosity and all the other qualities.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but most of the tractors use somekind of shuttle shift which is no more than a automatic transmission. I've seen some of the stuff tore down and most of it is just clutch packs. I'm not possitive about using it either but someone with knowledge could research this and give us a answer.

lots of info on 460ford.com.they say to use a screen type filter.a fiber type filter will starve the pump.holds up to heat real well.

Are you talking about John Deere Automatic Transmission fluid or the hy-gard hydraulic trans fluid. Heres a link to the auto fluid:

The ones using it on the turbo sight say it's clear so it must be the hy-gard hydraulic trans fluid. I know very little about any of these fluids, just going on the 10 page thread on the turbo sight. I am going to ask my trans builder as he builds alot of drag racing transmissions if they have used or it or have him look up the specs to see what he thinks.

Mercron III:
40°C: 34.35
100°C: 7.23

JD Hy-gard regular:
40°C: 59
100°C: 9.4

JD Hy-gard low viscosity:
40°C: 33
100°C: 7.1

Case Hy-tran:
40°C: 40
100°C: 6.3

Here are the specs on the oils they say they are using in drag racing. I'll see if I can dig up the pressure and some other specs.

We use the regular in our tractors and run the low viscosity in combines with hydrostatic transmissions. If you do any I would think the low viscosity would be the one you would want because a hydrostatic and automatic are more similar. I could be wrong though?????

I'd be careful. It leaks out of those tractors pretty fast. No telling what it would do in a pickup.

I talked to my tranny guy today, he said alot of the powerglide guys swere by it. He didn't see any problem with running it. How much fluid do you replace by just draining the pan?
