Jeep Liberty Diesel

This had been discussed a good while ago, and there was a disagreement on which engine is in the diesel liberty. I found an article in my April 03 issue of Four Wheeler. It says "The DaimlerChrysler owned VM Motori in Italy manufactures the 2.8L CRD engines. The engine will achieve 30mpg and have 150hp and 266ft-lbs of torque" But it goes on to say "the euro-spec diesel engine may or may not mirror exactly what the North American market will get."

Re:Jeep Liberty Diesel

I have no data on the MB engine, but the VM italian engine is one of the best smaller sized common rails money can buy. Absolute lowest emissions and the best service record of ANY small diesel so far. One heck of a company and one heck of an engine. Basically the Ferrari of the Diesel world. Top quality stuff.

Re:Jeep Liberty Diesel

It will be interesting to see how the dealer shops handle the diesel repairs. First year for a new model is difficult for everyone. Hopefully DC has trained their personnel properly, so we won't have nightmares like the DMax and 6.0PSD owners have had.

Re:Jeep Liberty Diesel

The Jeep Grand Cherokee uses the same engine as the Freightliner Sprinter van. I believe in the Jeep it's 165hp and 295 lb ft of torque.

Re:Jeep Liberty Diesel

I was at the Jeep dealers today asking about the diesel Liberty, they said in the last 6 months it's been and on again and off again deal and right now they'd be surprised if it did come out. (personaly I hope it does) I was at three different dealers and heard the same from each one, lol and none of them tried to sell me what they did have, they knew I was only interested in a jeep if it had a diesel. Wass also in to see the Ford guys to see about the diesel Ranger rumor, and they basically said keep wishing LOL. But both Jeep and Ford did say generally they are the last to know what they are gonna get lol so maybe there is hope.

Re:Jeep Liberty Diesel

They should put a diesel in the dakota and the durango, anything else will not net them the sales numbers.

Ford made a big mistake too, a diesel in the half ton and the expedition would be perfect.

Not everyone needs a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, many would be quite happy with a half ton or smaller getting 30 mpg..

Re:Jeep Liberty Diesel

Yes the lack of new diesels out made me decide to fix up my little Ranger diesel, it's slow and old and alot of people think it's a junker long over due for the scrap yard. But it's small, easy to get around in, in town and last time I was about to check mileage it got 45 mpg so it'll get fixed up, most of all it's paid for = no payments, and cheap to license

Re:Jeep Liberty Diesel

You got it dan!! Years ago I had a nissan diesel that thing was amazing and always ran like a top, the door were flapping in the wind when we sold it but she still ran like a million dollars.

Who ever comes out with something along that lines will make a killing as long as it isnt a piece of junk.

Re:Jeep Liberty Diesel

my lil ranger must have way over 200000 miles on it by now. Not sure though the speedometer and miles indicator stopped working long ago. In fact about the only gauge that does work is the fuel level and the oil pressure.
