Was at the Cummins Dealer in Houston, buying some of the lift pump kits.
Thinking about installing a Jake, so asked their installation cost. $650.
Seems like a lot.
Do the dealers do it for less?

That's about the cost of the brake. BUT it's about a 2 or so hour job, lets see that's $325 an hour. Even if it took twice that long, or all day even that's still step JMO. I put mine on in about the 2 hour mark

This may be a dumb question but, would there be any way to do a real jake brake like on the big rigs? Or is that system built into the head? Because I know it closes the valves and tuns the engine into an air compressor I think.

The dealer here charges $260 to put a brake on.

I am not sure, but I believe the big rigs use the same type of Jacobs/Jake Brake.

There is no engine retarder made for the B series cummins motor. The jacobs exhaust brake is totally different from what is referred to as a jake brake (which is an engine brake) on a tractor trailer. Go to www.jakebrake.com and you can read what the difference is. An engine brake is located within the head. An exhaust brake is in the exhaust anywhere after the turbo.

Nope. Just exhaust brakes. I wish there was an engine brake. I'd love to have one on my truck.

Like said above, that's probably the cost of the brake itself.
Why don't you just install it on your own....it's quite easy to do if you can drill a couple holes, and turn a ratchet or a wrench.
