Jacobs exhaust brake owners, please take a look
I've seen numerous complaints by folks about the quality of the vacuum pumps for this set up. Worse than that was the expense of replacing the pumps when they fail. I was following in a thread the last couple days when another member posted pics of a deal he located on vacuum pumps for his non-intercooled 1st gen. To me, it looks like the pumps are the same as the ones used for the pump on your exhaust brakes. Here are the links, y'all take a look and tell me what you think. Not similar to aftermarket vaccum pump on 2006
My pump is belt driven, not gear driven as shown. it also has only one diaphragm.
I have been told there are sub $30 rebuild kits that seem like the best choice unless the pump destroys itself. Some people report buying pumps from a Chevy that fit onto the driving pulley for around $100.

I think part of the failures on the vacuum pumps is due to the lack of seal on the factory hose set up. They have to many places for it to leak. The factory unit has adapters / unions and a vinyl tubing piece. .. When I installed my setup I traded out the fitting at the solenoid valve and ran 3/8 tubing all the way to the pump.

If the pre 2003 combination power steering pump/vacuum pump would fit the CR, I'd rather do that then keep replacing the vacuum pump for the exhaust brake. I don't know that it will fit or even if its in the same spot, just thought I'd mention it. I will be buying a exhaust brake in the future for the 06.
My 2000 with a Jake, was still working at 203,000 miles when I sold it. Never have a vacuum pump issue since it was new.
That pump is the same one used on all the 5.7, 6.2 and 6.5 GM diesels. I think the can was a little bigger on the chevy version.
