It's time, i've done heard enough
Just finished my 4k gsk kit. And while I was doing it my buddy comes over to hang out and then proceeds to running his mouth about how I wouldn't be able to keep up with his 02 duramax. Which is fine because it pretty fast to me but i've done heard enough and i'm gonna step up my game to shut him up. Heres his mods; edge attitude, homemade intake tube, and straight pipe. I was thinking about some injectors and dv's to solve this problem. Will that be enough? Also I do use this truck to tow (but not heavy, car trailer+car is the most) Thanks Ken

The '05 D-Max we just got done rebuilding the transmission I drove, they're quick.
They accelerate real fast, 0-40 times are fast. Top end tho I doubt it could touch my cummins once I hit lock-up, but now I have the NV4500.
You didn't state if you have an auto or stick?
If you have an auto, wire yourself up a lockup switch, lock it up once you hit second and hope for the best .
I've done several launches like this, but the last time I twisted the splines on the input hub, and the first time I did it I completely mangled my input shaft.
So I don't recommend it. If all else fails, lock out OD lock up in 3rd, once you get to the full RPMs hit OD and you should be scootin..

From my limited 12V learnings so far...
I'm sure others will chime in and correct me...
Tony
- 370 injectors (marine, i think)
- 180 DV's
- Lockup controller, as mentioned
- Beef up the auto to handle more power.
- May need more turbo (not sure of model) to match the additional fuel; perhaps twins!
I'm sure others will chime in and correct me...

depending on whether its a crew cab, extended cab, dually, single rear wheel...thats probably a high 14 second duramax. Mid 14's if he gets a good 4 wheel drive launch. I dont know what mods would be comporable on a 12v, or what it would take to go that fast, Im just trying to give you a ball park idea how fast he is so you can figure out exactly what needs to be done to your truck in order to beat him.
Tell him he better not to do a HUGE power-braked 4wd launch or else his front tires are going to go cross-eyed and he will be riding home on a tow truck.

I'm having a similar issue, so what did you do? I used to own a D-Max, it was quick, same mods as mentioned above, but I like my Cummins much more. Now my friend is talking crap and I know I'll have to eventually shut him up. He has a LBZ Crew Cab 3500.
Anyone, comments?
P.S. Nice LS1 in sig, I have a LT1 car.

some Injectors , A 62/12 or 64/12 a 100 plate and a smooth foot with a good SC VB and Converter you'll have no troubles at all! If he's factory tranny he wont be doing anything to this setup! My duramax the way it sits dynos 457 WITH THE EDGE JUICE WITH ATTITUDE, but thats a special case. IMO The edge wont give him near enough fuel to even come close to your truck!
If you do go with DV's dont go lazer cut, go with 191's or so and watch your foot, You could easily get to much fuel with DV's and slow you down!

I know,....... I'm evil
Thats what I do. When ever some one calls me out I just offer to hook. I've even offered to hook two at once against some cars

You should be able to whip him how your truck sits. Turbo upgrades are not needed to whip a duraturd...
I dont see what your timing is set at but I would set it somewhere about 17* and let it eat. If thats still not enough, get some new era 370's they have a better spray pattern for the truck engine.
To keep things cool with that fuel you may want to upgrade your charger to a hybrid 35/40 setup. Cheapest way to get a little more out of the stock charger.

If that dont work i use the " No , These 230 Horse Shower Heads wont blow your Head Gasket, Of Course we recomend 75 Lbs of boost on stock head gaskets!!! noooo Your stock clutch will hold 1000RWHP Plus, All that takes is a edge comp , two new injectors, a SSTTMVP HXSUPER-35 with 4" Down Pipe Adapter and a set of 10 Inch stove pipes , All the duramax needs is modified AB Pump to Supply the Factory CP pump and it makes over 2000 RWHP..... )
