Exclamation An item to occassionally check.......That left my truck stranded......

A new item in my usual routine will be to make sure the injector line hold downs are tight. Apparently I had a loose one that caused the line on #3 to break at the head.

A friend of mine borrowed my truck to haul a trailer to AZ and back. About 3 hours from home he calls me saying the truck started running rough, fuel pressure took a dive and there was an extremely strong fuel smell. Well, he popped the hood and the entire engine compartment was covered in fuel.

When he fired it up fuel was spraying from the #3 line at the head and he said he could see the that the line was broke.

LUCKILY there was a Cummins shop close. He had it hauled there and when I picked it up the service guy explained to me why the line failed because that
was something I had never heard of. When the hold down is loose the pulses cause a vibration which leads to the line going bad.

I never saw the truck or the line so I take his word for it.

Just thought I would share this, hopefullymy experience will help someone else out.......

Good to know.....I never would have guessed that the pulses would cause a line failure.....thanks for the tip.

What happens to the lines is just like what happens to coat hanger wire if you bend it back and forth a bunch-- it fatigues and breaks. It happens on a smaller scale, and more slowly--but it still happens!

I have a couple of my hold downs missing. Anyone got any spares that hold 2 lines and 1 that holds 3 lines? Any idea what the part #'s might be?
