International 5088 Farm tractor

Hey all, I know there are a few other farmers on this board.

Wondering if any of you have experience with this series/model of tractor.

It's an early to mid eighties model I believe about 136 PTO H.P.

Cab, 4wd, Air, etc.

Looks to be in good shape, (a neighbour has it and is looking to sell it, haven't gotten into it that much) not even sure how many hours are on it.

Any info would be great.

As per the Nebraska tractor tests-

5088 has a DT436 engine (later ones may have gotten the DT466).

136 PTO hp at 2400rpms, 116 at the drawbar. 18spd. tranny.

My neighbor had one. He liked it alot. One thing I always liked about the later IH tractors was, that they have seperate shafts for 540 and 1000 rpm PTO. Don't have to swap anything over, as other makes do. One I never cared for, was the fact that the door opens backwards. Why they did that, I'll never know.

That's about all I know about them. I've been around mostly Deere equipment.

A friend of mine just made a swap for one of those. (That is if he can get the old Case Ditch Digger working). I haven't used it yet, but he said it was a pretty good tractor. He has had others before, so I guess he knows what he is talking about.

Mine have all been green, but if it works good, I'll run just about any color.

We are a dealer, but for them Orange ones , and those IH's lin that series aren't all that common around here, but I've never heard anything real bad about them.

The 4wd tractors are a rare, especially around here.

If it means anything, a 1086 (older model number of same tractor)went on auction not too long ago for $14K and that was just 2wd.

I have one and it has been great exept when the fuel filters stoped up (water contamination) it took out the injection pump. It has the rotary pump on it but the higher horse model had the p7100 (I think) any way If you keep the fuel filters clean it runs great and starts well in winter without the ether spray. (In southern AL)

Oh and tree limbs like to break out the side windows (replaced with plexi)

Thanks for the input guys... Appreciate it..

I never thought of the 466 possibility in it.

But a 466 with a rotary pump??????

Didn't think they made them like that.

The tractor has been well kept for sure, it's in great shape.

We'll have to see how many $'s he wants for it...

Wish it had a loader, that would be a sweet loader tractor

Yeah I have the shop manual and it says the early models had the rotary pump and the later ones had the inline. When I get back up to the farm (am at school) I will take some pics of it.

I help on a farm that has one, not bad tractors to drive, transmission is nice, and you can see well out of the cab. The only issue we have had on that tractor is the hydraulic flow divider valve that sits UNDER the cab. It has had a tendancy to stick, causing loss of little things like brakes and the clutch. If you get it, be sure to keep the Hydraulic oil and filters maintained. I dont think the one I run is maintained well enough and dirt in the hydraulics is a major cause of some of the problems.

What are you looking to do with this tractor?

Just general farm work. Field work, ie. plow, disk. cultivate. Pull big bale wagons. Blow snow. Possibly run the round baler. etc.

I would love a loader on it for feeding cattle in the winter.
