intermittent blower motor

my 2000 is acting up im, in the last 2 days i have lost the fan 3 times, it will shut off and nothing i do with the controls will turn it back on. after 10 min or so it will turn on again, i am yet to check for loose grounds do to weather conditions out here, 6* by noon today. my question is how often do the dials inside the cab go bad,or do i need to be looking for loose wires?

Thanks Dan

When it shuts off, give it a good whack with your snow scraper. If it starts back up, replace the motor.

Generally aftermarket motors do not run as well as OEMs.

The after market motors suck. I replaced my blower motor with one bought from Napa and it is much louder.

something else to check. I recently had the same problem, it turned out to be a bad blower motor resistor. Fairly simple replacement...

All good advice above. In addition, I'll add that whenever I see a burnt-out blower resistor, I do a current draw test on the motor. Most times I find that they burnt up the resistor because the motor is worn and drawing way too much current, even if it sounds normal. If they are drawing over 20 amps on high speed, it's too much. A new one is generally 15-16 amps.

If you have a u-pull-it around, any 1500, 2500 or 3500 fan will work. I paid $10 for one out of a 1500 and got the resistor with it.
