Interesting info I stumbled across.......

I was on DealerConnect a few minutes ago and was checking the list of vehicles that are not available for the Employee Choice program for a customer. As I read through the list, I get to the bottom and see "2007 DC 3500 Chassis cab" as one of the vehicles restricted from the program. This didn't suprise me but the next one did. It said "2007 DM 4500/5500 chassis cab. They sure are being quiet about it, but if it made this list it can't be too far away??? As this list is updated every two months or so.

You better not be joking about this or you'll ge a beating form a lot of members kidding them about 4500/5500.

I'm starting to get the "new truck bug" and was even looking at a few new Chevy 4X4 reg. cab D/A's with 2-3 yard dump bodies installed (with a 36K sticker price). I can't even believe I was entertaining the thought of an automatic trans. The lots around here in NH are full of Chevy/GMC and Ford 1-ton and up Chassis cabs with dump bodies installed (even side dumping, dump bodies), and all the Dodge places have are 1/2 tons with Hemi's. Its like Dodge doesn't care about trucks anymore. Every time I drove by a Ford place, I am always looking at the 350/450/550 4-door Chassis cabs ... they offer all the body styles anyone could want!

If there is a chance a 4500/5500 is coming down the road, I will be accelerating my "penny jar" deposits considerably. A nice 4-door C/C 4X4 with a 220+" frame would be nice.

(Too bad Paccar didn't get into the HD pickup business ... a Red Oval 5500 truck would be nice.)

Believe me, this is no joke. I read it right off of DealerConnect which is Chryslers website that we use to comunicate with them for ordering, pricing, incentive info and all kinds of good stuff.

As soon as you find out body styles, frame lengths, GVW's, etc... start singing on this board.
My only concern is the new 6.7l junk engine will be in them (unless the decide to go to the MB900 or even an ISC).

This thread will turn a few head and get people's hopes up ... maybe.

I think the 6.7 will be as good or better than anything GM or Ford offers in this class of truck, but I have no info that that will be the engine they use, it'd make sense, but we all know Dodge's track record of doing things that make sense!

Given EGR's track record in diesels with the addition of a particulate trap, plus the added computer processing and how can you expect anything less?

These engins will soot up like crazy, loss of power, and can't you just wait till the particulate trap needs to be replaced! If it fails within Dodges warranty period (which I thought someone said they warranty them 100,000 miles), they'll just deny the warranty repair saying "you used bad fuel" and you'll be stuck with the $2,000+ repair, plus I'm sure you'll also have to replace the Cat (more $$$).

And saying that the new 6.7l will be as good or better then the DMax or Powerstroke ain't saying much.

I doubt that many people will keep these new trucks more than 200K miles as the maintenance costs will be exponentionally greater than the pre-2007 trucks.

Sorry to be so negative about the new engine, but history is on my side when making assumptions about EGR. The real problem is not really the engins or trucks, but the EPA. This Stalin like organization needs to be shut down or at least stripped of their dictitorial powers. The air in this country has been just fine for many years. The EPA true objective is to control the people of this country as well as industry. Until they are eliminated, the 2020 Dodge Ram will nothing more than a dual axle cart and a horse.

no offense, but if you are not driving one, you do not have the right to dog it. i believe the 6.7 will be better than the 5.9, so much that i have allready started saving my pennies. luke, still waiting to order.

What does the "DM" stand for?

Maybe it will be a rebadged medium-duty Freightliner truck? Similar to how the Dodge Sprinter is available at Freightliner dealers.

I'm thinking DM stands for Daimler Mercedes, and I'm wondering how dodgelike it will be.

As for the EGR thing, you're right-you do have to keep history in mind. And historically, cummins has been making egr work in their engines for some time now. You may say that I'm looking at the wrong history, that I ought to be looking at the powerstroke and duramax problems. If so, I say that cummins history with cummins engines is more relevant to this than other companies' history with other engines.

"DM" is the first two letters of the new Body model. Like the 3500 Cab & chasis's are "DC", as in DC8L63, or how a 3500 quad cab long bed SLT 4x4 is a D18H42. Making sense?

I thought i read that the 4500/5500 would be on a frieghtliner frame with a dodge cab and a different front clip.

Man, that would be great. I think it would go a good way toward pimp slapping ford and chevy back down in that area of the market.

Ford: We have a basically glorified and fortified f350 with a greatly inferior engine for sale! Please come pay us $50k for one!

Dodge: We have a freightliner chassis-based 4500 and 5500 for sale with a cummins. Interested?
