intake tube

intake tube
Just wanted to know if there is a real advantage to useing a aftermarket intake tube going into the turbo or just leaving the stock one, which is joined to a BD intake and AFE filter. If so what brand and where is the best place to get one. I live in the Kansas City area and got my intake @ St. Joe Diesel but they never mentioned the intake tube.

It is VERY simple......
This is my first diesel and I did it in less than 15 mins.
Just remove the torque tube and on one end of it you will see where there is a line where the torque tube was put together. Get a small screw driver and start twisting the crease and it will start to separate. It is going to sound like you are breaking it but don't worry your not. (unless your a gorilla.) Once you pry the ring off you can simply pull the baffles out. I used superglue around the glue strip inside ( you'll see where to glue) and let it set for about 5 mins. and reinstalled it. I have been driving it around for a few days and i'll check to see if the heat made it come apart and not one problem!
I also removed the turbo silencer and it sounds AWESOME! Not to mention the looks you get from the ford and chevy guys when you are next to them while accelerating!

Thanks, i think i,ll give it a try, but i'm courios as to what the function is of the stuff inside the tube, is it supossed to act like an air straitener or somthing?

To silence the turbo whine is all i can figure.
I read that it is not important because for the cummins 600 and 610 dodge is the only trucks that actually have the silencer and the baffles. They "cummins" don't put it in there.

Well alright, I aprreciate your input. This was only the second post i've ever done and I must say its nice to get answers so quick. P.S. I had some wicked tranny problems on my 48re, its going to the dealer for the next week or so I didn't want to post this on the main threads because i didn't want anyone from the other "big three" to see it and start giving me crap.

There is a new tube on its way it's called the big blue hose one piece and made of silicone instead of a metal center pipe which can bring in heat. Will be ready soon waiting on inner support

2x 90° 4" rubber intake elbows and a short length of 4" steel exhaust tubing [or if you want to pay a little more, a length of 4" aluminum intake tubing] and you got yourself a torque tube... popular place to get them is from airflow systems inc. from there, you are looking at like ±$12 each for the elbows and another $10 for the pipe piece [maybe less, i can't remember prices well]

removal of the baffles is even easier if ya look for a post by hoot, go to his gallery of pics, listen to his truck start up and then go to his pics and look at the guide to baffle removal. trickiest part is figuring out the silencer ring in the turbo, it is so **** simple it makes ya overthink it. think of it as a piston ring clipped onto the inside of a tube instead of around the piston. A sharp pointed tool is all ya need to get it out and then the silencer ring drops right out.
