Intake????

I am sure this is a dumb question, but here we go anyways. I am looking to upgrade my stock intake to an AFE which filter do I want. I have never ran a filter that I had to oil or worry about adding to much oil? Does anyone have any suggestions on the best route or how big of a pain it is to have a wet filter?

Performance Systems Engineering. www.psmbuick.com

They also sell the 'cool hose' which is a much improved hose that installs between the turbo and the stock air box - or any other aftermarket air box.

I run the cool hose, have since my truck was new. I also ran the PSM air box hose in my stock air box, than added it to the bottom of my Ice Box air box - better intake air over the stock air inlet to the intake box.

If I had it to do again I would have stayed stock.I screwed up and gave away my stock intake system. If I can find one reasonable I will switch back.

I have the afe stage 2 with a pro guard 7.Don't feel there was any benefit over the stock system for the money paid.Plus cleaning and oiling filter is a pita.

As an old hot rodder, I'm always looking for upgrades that actually do something. The ultimate goal is either more power, or greater efficiceny. They usually go together, but not always.

With that in mind, every time I read about a mod, I ask these two questions: 1. Does it make more power? 2. Does it use less fuel? If the answer is not a resounding "yes" to either one, then why bother?

So, in regards to any aftermarket air cleaner system - I have yet to see any advantage in power or economy over the stock box. That's $300 saved.

Same with a cool hose. $200 for a rubber hose? To get a cooler intake charge, you could wrap the tube with header tape and get the same results. But, I'v not seen any evidence of a "yes" answer.

"But the intake charge is measurably cooler". And......? more power? Better economy? Can you prove it?

"But the EGT is lower!" And......? more power? Better economy? Can you prove it?

I'm loath to spend that kind of money without a measurable gain. It's like the gas engine guys spending $500 in a cat back exhaust system.
