Instument cluster in km/h

Will the instrument cluster from another truck display the mileage of my truck or the mileage of the truck that it came out of? Its an Amarican truck so it reads in mph, and I am switching it to km, I am guessing that a dealer would have to make the necessary changes in the computer to accommodate this change? anybody know for sure? Thanx.

I do not know If it is in the ecm , all I did was change my cluster and it shows the mileage of the previous truck. I did not take it in to get to the right reading put on it.

Actually, I think the metric system is easier. It's the conversion between the two that confuses a lot of people.

As for where the mileage is stored, I believe that the cluster has it's own memory. It should be stored in the ECM, but it's one of those instances where it makes too much sense.

I do not know I never asked them, I liked looking at the new odometer reading. Went from 193000 kms to 40000 kms.

My speedometer is in light years. It took some convincing, but I did get the service tech to switch it....You should all try it! much, much easier.
