Instant Spool??

Or am I better off trying to find a unicorn i want my truck to hit hard right off an idle im sick of counting to 5 before it lights and I want to keep the gearing i have. I tow a little but its only 10k and about five times a year. So can i go twins or medium size single? I know stixs would help which I intend on adding but they will also kill my egts. Any help always apperciated.

You could always try what the rally cars use, you kinda need spark plugs for it though. http://www.innovativeturbo.com.au/als.html

Or a big fat shot of NOS helps a lot.

The only trucks I have ridden in that spool almost instantly is the LBZ Duramax or 6.0l Ford with the vari-geo turbos.

Let me know when you want to go unicorn hunting, I will get a bonus tag for Sasquatch

Well, if you have a stock turbo, which it sounds like you do, it's as good as it's gonna get. If you go to a bigger turbo then you're gonna have more lag. When you get more fuel then you can look at twins, but your stock turbo is gonna be the quickest spooling and hottest running.

unicorn = ATS's MST

hmmm from what I've read ... unicorn might be the best way to describe the MST (Multi-Stage Turbo) from ATS. It would be exactly what you're looking for, but it's still sadly in development.

I wonder why someone way smarter than me hasnt figured out a way to use the vari-geo turbos from industrial applications for the 5.9?

I know on the ISX's you can command through Insite a turbo test and it will build 10-15 lbs. boost at idle. It woulds be nice to hit a stage button and have boost so I didnt have to burn down my clutch at the line.

not sure how big your wheels are but sorry to say with your set up running
those big 37s that is the reason your truck is slow to spool more then anything else.

looks like you have a nice truck by your sig, I bet that truck looks nice with the lift & 37s if you plan on keeping the 37s you may want to look into a 62/65/13ss S400 MPI twin combo then the big 37s wont hurt power.

I know it's not what you want to hear but.....take the boost fooler off. I've tried it and my truck spools faster and has more bottom end without the fooler. With the fooler the mid range and top are noticeably stronger.

Yep. I was gonna say the 37's sure don't help.

Like also stated, the stocker is going to be the fastest spooling turbo you can get. It's only going to get more laggy from there.

Some people say they get more bottom end and faster spoolup by using a boost fooler. I'm not sure how a boost fooler is going to control spoolup though?

I know a secret!!!

I don't know that it's even very close to being tested yet, but in the future we will likely have a way to have INSTANT spool and still have HUGE power capability.

There is a team effort between two companies taking place right now to develop a twins set up that uses a belt driven charger in place of the small turbo in a twins set up.

I tow 10k several days a week usually and my truck won't pull at low rpm with the fooler. Get above 1800 and it's great but below that it just loses it's grunt. Since diggity only tows a little he may not care to remove it.

Wow that's weird. When towing heavy mine has little power under 1800 RPM too, but I figured that's due the engine not starting to make power until 1600 RPM. I know 2000 RPM is the magic number for some reason...plenty of power there.

I have to agree on the boost fooler. I had a Quad fooler when I had my Bully and it was terrible below 1800. I normally drive 16-1900 so it went off the very next day I got it. It might have had 30 mi. on it. Just try unplugging it once and you will notice.

I think the stock turbos on these trucks spool very well. Certainly a lot faster than the old HX-35 on my buddies truck.

It does take a little while to spool if you're at low rpm and then mat the throttle. Since you have the 37's you could downshift to help out.

Huhh,,,, good friend of mine hates his 6.0's lag. I myself don't have any lag at all with the stock turbo. NONE!!!!! The gearing and tire size make a huge difference.
