Installing an overhead console with compass, temp, ect...

My truck does not have the info display output in the overhead console. I would like to have that in my truck and can buy the overhead console with the output on it. But I was wondering if anybody has installed one of these in a truck that did not come stock with it? What all is included in getting it hooked up?

Think someone else is trying to install the overhead. Don't think there is any wiring in for your truck. Maybe someone has done one and will give you more information.

im trying to do this in the other truck. Mine has it the other dose not. I know at least under the hood the wireing is all there for the thermacouple. I have not taken down the console yet but I'd imagine the harness is there too and you just need the computer and lead to plug it in. I cant imagine that chrystler has a diffrent harness for every optioned truck out there. I think its more likely every truck has one harness and the options are simply pluged in.

I think this is reasonably safe assumption. I installed cruise control after-the-fact and all the harness connections and ecm software support was there.

I have read in past posts that some trucks seem to be fully equipped for all options and others are missing all the nescessary wiring and connectors. I am fortunate that mine is pre-wired for power heated mirrors even though it wasn't ordered with them. The dash heat switch connector as well as the connections in the doors were all there. There is also an extra headlight connector on each side that I assume is for the Sport package dual headlamps, but I am not sure about this. The easiest way to find out would be to drop the headliner and see whats hiding up there. Good Luck

you won't even have to drop the headliner...just pull the overhead console there now out...this sounds like a good idea...i'll have to check mine because i really liked having that on the old truck...

I know my boss put in clearance lights and all the wiring was there so I think all of the wiring for the counsel will be there also.

I will check and see if the harness is behind the console now. I think I read that the temp sensor is mounted behind one of the head lights using one of the headlight bolts. I will look for that as well.

GibletC, I think the temp sensor is somewhere by the passanger head light. From the way mine works think the probe is in the airduct to the airfilter. I've noticed when I first turn the key on and the overhead lights up the temp will read say 50*. It will stay there, then when engine starts and air is flowing thru the duct the tempatuer will change, usually drop about 4 degrees. I have the stock airfliter on for now. This is just running the engie, not driving yet.

I did the coversion on my '02 SLT and the harness was not there. I needed the computer/display, harness from the computer to the under dash connectors, underhood harness to the temp sensor and the temp sensor itself. The temp sensor on the '02 is located on the drivers side grill. On my '96 the temp sensor was located on the lower drivers side radiator support. I'm not sure when they switched the location.

From looking at a truck that had the overhead display and mine that doesnt, the outside temp sensor is mounted near the hood latch, and there is a connector by the hood light that wires it. looking at the 01 service manual, you have to find joint connector number 7, under the dash somewhere I am guessing, and you have to have a black wire off the Central Timer Module to give info from it.

Camel racer, a little supporting info would be GREATLY appreciated cause I want to do it on my 02 sport as well.
