I have been searching around here and it seems each thread gets derailed about the laws of an in bed tank.
I Don't care, don't bring it up in this topic.

I have a 50 gallon tank I picked up. I would like to gravity feed it for ease of install, and maintance.
How do I do this?
Any links to some pics?

I used the kit from Northern Tool to gravity feed in my old truck. Never a problem with it and worked great.

Fiver... i've installed my similar to yours, however i have a 2nd gen that has the 3rd port on top of the tank for venting (?)... anyone have a suggestion as how to plug or raise the vent higher than the aux tank?

There have been many discussions on this board about that vent, but I think the 3rd gen has it also. Do you have a problem with it??? It has never been a problem for me, so I assume my vent is plugged. So, must be possible. I have never had a drop of fuel spill. As I recall, they were saying that the tank has to be dropped a little to get back into that vent. If mine were open, I think I could invent a method to hold a plug that would five me a long enough reach to get back to that vent.

Doesn't the vent have an internal ball or a one way valve in it so if the truck rolls over the vent plugs so no fuel spills out?? or in the case if you over fill the tank it plugs the vent. I know on gassers thats how it is. don't see why a diesel would be any different i guess.

well mine must not have the check valve or ball plug... i've had my gravity system about a year now & i have to manually valve off between my aux & main tanks such to not spill (don't ask how i know!!!)

is there a difference between the 2nd & 3rd gen fuel caps? i don't think/know if i could simply plug the vent & not have fuel come up thru the filler neck... i guess i would need to check whether or not i have the siphon ball at the end of the filler neck

Northern gravity feed kit here too, no problems in over 3 years.
3d gen fuel systems are sealed, i leave mine open all the time and no leaks.

My 2001 gasser had a two way breathing fuel cap. The cap on this 3rd gen breathes in only, hence it shuts off with anything trying to get out. I have opened it and had to put it back on real quick before - - fuel right up into the neck to the cap, but no spill.

I have a question about the gravity feed systems. If the fuel is gravity fed from the upper tank, and it keeps the lower tank filled to capacity as long as it has fuel to feed, how does that affect the fuel return line? If the fuel rail doesn't need the fuel for power it gets returned to the tank. How much of a strain is it putting on the system trying to push fuel back into a filled tank?

usmc2311, first of all Happy Veterans Day and thank you for ur service. Now about the gravity feed tank. I have had mine in for about 2 1/2 yrs with no problems. No runs, no drips, no errors....lol. It works just like fiverbob says it will. Hope this helps.

i have a shut off valve on mine, i only turn it on when i want to transfer fuel

I to have a shut off valve. I leave it open all the time except when I want to change the fuel filter w/s. Never had a problem with the returning fuel.
